Our communities near and around Cottonwood have a real gem located in the Mingus Union High School. Last Friday evening, we enjoyed the hardworking talents of the performers and supporting members in the production of “Broadway across America.”
Having been in many theatrical and choral performances all over the country myself, I was struck by the intensity and proficiency of the cast. For a high school group, I would rate them higher than many college productions that I have attended.
These young people are so fortunate to have a teacher that challenges them and a community that respects and supports them. Music and choreography are one of very few curriculum left that require complete discipline.
One misstep in a dance production or one missed note can throw the entire ensemble for a loop. This is not unlike group sports, where if one player gets out of sync the entire play is changed, along with the final score.
The other most wonderful benefit that all people taking part in the production; including cast, crew, ticketing, concessions and ushers receive a sense of satisfaction and confidence that follow them for the rest of their lives.
Please Cottonwood: continue to support Mr. Ball, your school board, and all involved with productions like these. They are indeed a real gem.
