Letter: You think guns are bad?

Editor:

How long are we as a community going to permit our children and citizens to be slaughtered by mechanical devices?

Every year 42,000 (5 per hour) die needlessly as a result of these horrific instruments of death.

Is it time to get tough to enact legislation and laws?

Why do cars need high capacity engines with 100 hp or more? Do they need to accelerate to 60 mph in 5 seconds? Shouldn't 1 mph over the speed limit result in loss of driver's license for life and confiscation of vehicle? Speed kills.

Shouldn't there be a breathalyzer on every car from the factory?

Shouldn't police focus on traffic control?

Shouldn't high performance assault vehicles that are jacked-up, noisy exhaust, big tires that encourage recklessness be banned?

Why do we allow NASCAR that promotes speed and reckless driving?

Shouldn't cell phones, that are responsible for 4,000 deaths a year, be required to be in a locked case in the trunk?

Shouldn't every driver pass a psychology background test to prevent road rage?

Don't we need our president to issue executive orders for zero tolerance to eliminate this senseless carnage?

James Pierce

All the anti gun people wanting to destroy the BOR move to Mexico? Citizens can't own guns only one gun story in the country. That should be heaven for them! At the least move back to Ca.

The gun to vehicle comparison does make sense. Why does the media show the pictures of the gun victims and make their funerals into news stories. The media does not cover car deaths in the same way they do gun deaths. The media is having a contest. They put out a challenge for the next sicko to kill even more than the last. It makes good news. Maybe the next victims will be even younger. The media would love that. The media will blame the guns, but isn't the media putting the opportunity out there to make the next crazy shooter an instant celebrity because they killed more people. The media love large body counts.

"comparison of gun to vehicles"

You only need to register a vehicle if it is driven on public roads. So the logical comparison would be that government can impose restrictions on firearms if they are carried on, or infringe on, public property. Keep in mind, however, that registration and liability insurance requirements are imposed by state governments, not the fed.

Article comment by: funny how... .

pro gun folks normally side step the comparison of gun to vehicles by claiming that driving a car is a privilege and ~not~ a right.

so now it seems this gun fan has made a great case for safer vehicles while trying to be sarcastic...

if the gun control folks can't use the vehicle neither can you unless you are willing to admit that guns should be controlled, registered, licensed and insured... just like a car...

nice try...
