Letter: We need to show politicians who has the real power

When I was growing up, I was told that our elected officials would take care of us no matter what. Back then, we believed our country’s elected officials would act on our behalf and do the right thing no matter what.

Our representatives, in congress, were elected to do a difficult job. However, for this work they received good perks, health care benefits, and a pension program most anyone would steal for. It now seems these same representatives have also decided who would be on the Supreme Court.

I thought these judges were supposed to be charged with overseeing and enforcing the laws of the land and the United States Constitution that many of our brothers and sisters died for.

Today, the handout of free money, from very deep pockets, to our representatives has caused them to fall short of their goals of listening to the people they are supposed to be working for.

It’s not big oil companies, other big corporations, Wall Street, or foreign interests that should be the first ones listened to.

It’s the single parent, working people, taxpayers who pay 20 or 30 percent every year and senior citizens who have worked most of their lives just to have a decent retirement.

But no, greedy politicians still want to take more from these people. Why is it that many of our representatives seem to have a private war on children? Some even boast that children don’t need good schools or a hot lunch program. Not even the chance to go to college so they have an increased opportunity to enjoy a better future.

What a sellout. Today many representatives respond only to those in the 1 percent who hand out buckets of money to get their special interests into law; not the people they are supposed to represent.

Why isn’t every American citizen in an outrage over the amount of money being spent on the current presidential campaign? Could this outrageous sum have been better used to help kids gain a better education? How about quality health insurance for people? Maybe help young men and women go to college?

Isn’t it time to cut our representative’s working conditions, salaries, and perks ... like they have, or want to, cut our wages, rights, medical care, benefits, and pensions?

Hey people, where are the Supreme Court Justices when you need them to protect us from these greedy money hungry bastards that continue to drive our Country into the ground?

Isn’t it time for all of us to STAND UP for the principles this Country was founded on like FREEDOM and REAL REPRESENTATION.

Please remember, I can’t do it alone. However, we can do it together. We can begin to rebuild our country by showing our representatives who still has the real power.

Heavily financed by billionaire capitalists, the Tea Party movement lead to the Republican party gaining seats in the U.S. Senate and to a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010. Since then, the Congress has recorded their lowest voter approval ratings ever.
The reason for this historic unpopularity is that they are either unable to do their job or they are unwilling to do their job. Their main job is NOT to get reelected. Their main job is to responsibly spend our money - and balance the budget. Insubordinate, unqualified employees should be fired. Let's give 'em a pink slip.
