Letter: Men need to take responsibility for contraception

Editor:

I, like Dr. Stetson, am against abortion.

For myself. However, I support a woman’s right to choose whether or not to continue a pregnancy. There is no verse in the Bible that says human life begins at conception.

Our country’s value system is not based on the Bible. Christianity is not our national religion, and when the writers of the Constitution of the United States spoke of a our Creator, they didn’t say Christian Creator, Jewish Creator, or Islamic Creator.

Making it law that human life begins at conception failed in Mississippi for good reason. Under the “Law of Unintended Consequences,” most contraception would be outlawed. Is this what Dr. Stetson really wants? Men are affected by unexpected or unwanted pregnancies just as women are. It is easier for men to walk away since they are not the ones carrying the fetus, but women do not live in an isolated vacuum.

Pregnancies affect their children and their partners. A solution would be to make the man responsible for contraception, thus ensuring that other birth control is not needed.

Real men step up,child support (even without visitation)you earn that.Clothing etc ,the whole nine yards.
Layed off and no job?.The judge will set a reasonable support payment.(Hopefully)
I've known men, including myself living in cars
and making payments.
You'll learn that down the road you can look your flesh and blood in the eye and give them
someone to be proud of.No matter how you
were presented from another.
In other words MAN UP!

Larry, a belief is NOT fact. Faith is not EDUCATION.

FACT: Puritan pilgrims came to America to ESCAPE the state mandated Church of ENGLAND. They came here for religious FREEDOM, not to create a NEW government mandated RELIGION.

Remember Thomas Jefferson? These are HIS words.

Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity. ~ Thomas Jefferson

In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Even Jesus said . . .

Render therefore unto Caesar that which is Caesarís and unto God those things which are Godís. ~ Jesus

Believe what you will, that does not make it TRUE.

I and my wife of 42 years do believe that the US was based on the basic Kings James Version of the Bible. And that means that sex is ment to be between a husband and wife. Therefore the husband and the wife are both responsible. If the men and ladies (well society as a whole) will adhere to the scripture values of the Holy Bible there would not be this controversy.

...but I just want to point out something.

Mary Lou made a really good point when she said, "Our countryís value system is not based on the Bible. Christianity is not our national religion, and when the writers of the Constitution of the United States spoke of a our Creator, they didnít say Christian Creator, Jewish Creator, or Islamic Creator."

Perhaps it bears mentioning that all 3 religions share the same Creator. Yup, the Old Testament is the same for each of the Big 3.
But you already knew that, right?

I suppose anyone can search through any number of translations of The Bible, The Torah or The Qoran (sp) and find passages that will support their point of view on any topic. But as a practical matter, contraception is a whole lot cheaper for the insurance providers than pregnancy and childbirth and all that goes with it. As for expecting men to be responsible? Well, good luck with that notion.

AND as I always said, "It takes TWO to TANGO," men should be held FINANCIALLY responsible from the GIT GO!

That means DOCTOR bills, hospital bills and SUPPORT. It is so easy for the MEN to put it ALL on women, when they get to be able to WALK away with no consequences.

Regardless of whether or not he wants to walk away from the MOTHER, the child is HIS also and should also be HIS responsibility.
