Commentary: Envisioning water supply sustainability
In the midst of a 15-year drought and counting, most Arizonans recognize that the state faces water shortages. In specific localities these shortages exist now. For most of the populous portions of the state severe shortages are not projected to occur for several decades.

Commentary: Yavapai College continues to under-serve the Verde Valley
Occasionally, a skeptic appears in this newspaper who questions the view that the Verde Valley is being underserved by Yavapai College. To this doubting Thomas, I say: "Just look at the facts." If you do, you will find an unmistakable 45-year pattern of underservice. In fact, since the beginning of the County Community College system in the late 1960s, the goal has been to build a first-class community college in the Prescott area while simultaneously underserving the Verde Valley.

Commentary: Southwest Water Needs -- Take action on water future while we have the chance
There is some good news concerning water issues in the Southwest. The Natural Resources Conservation Services has indicated that snowmelt in the 4 upper basin states of the Colorado River Basin will help Lake Powell rise about 40 feet over the next few months. The result means that Lake Powell's water level will be within 26 feet of its 50 year average.
