Letter: Legislature needs to address Yavapai College issue
Mr. Oliphant is right on or en pointe when he said, "The remedy is for legislation to create a separate contiguous taxing district for a Verde Valley Community College. That is the only long-term solution to the continued absence of post-secondary learning opportunities in the Verde Valley."

Letter: Time to seriously consider county split from Prescott
Every since I first moved to the Verde Valley in 2000, I have noticed that the governments of the Verde Valley and the governments of Prescott, Prescott Valley, and all the communities on the west side of the local mountains cannot agree on much of anything.

Letter: Is this what is best for Camp Verde?
How can we criticize a neighbor who routinely helps us? A friend who saves our lives? We know nobody is perfect but need to see the best in our friends and show appreciation.

Letter: Why I will vote for Donald Trump
He isn't Hillary Clinton. I would take ANYBODY over HRC.
Saturday, September 17, 2016

Letter: Vote for Trump not a vote for honor and integrity
The supporters of Donald Trump are a unique group. They all know he's self-centered, self-serving, a narcissist, a bigot and racist. When asked, they say they don't care.

Sedona Recycles did not suddenly raise prices
I am writing in response to Dan Engler's commentary, "Free enterprise spells end of government subsidies for recycling," and Tom Tracey's article, "Recycling bins may go away in Camp Verde." As a Sedona Recycles employee since 2008, and a Camp Verde resident from 2012 until just a few months ago, I would like to clear up some gross misconceptions and assertions in these two pieces.

Letter: It takes collaboration from many to achieve success
In response to Mr. Bennett's letter to the editor on September 9th, please accept my apology for your misunderstanding of the statement "we."

Saturday, September 10, 2016

Letter: Hillary and Donald in one word each
If I were allowed only one word to describe Donald Trump, that word would have to be loud.

Letter: City officials don't deserve credit for Old Town's success
I read with disappointment your article "They Want What We Have" in the Sunday paper.  There was a lot of "we" statements by city officials who had very little to do with the success and transformation taking place in Old Town.

Letter: Can't stand Donald so it's Hillary by default
In this election cycle we have two of the most unfavorable candidates ever to run for president.

Letter: Great choice for new District 3 county supervisor
I am so glad to see a lesser well known candidate receive the endorsement of the electorate for the position of District 3 Yavapai County Supervisor, namely that of Randy Garrison.

Letter: No happy endings to this story
All you roofers out there, here is a veteran who fell through the cracks! Today, three years later, this former den mother of her sons is ready to write, so here we go.

Letter: Clinton has done nothing to earn America's trust
It's interesting that the Clinton campaign is trying to diffuse the steady trickle of bad publicity for their candidate by falling back on her "great right wing conspiracy" defense that she has used in other Clinton scandals.

Letter: Labor Day perfect time to reflect on importance of union labor
Since its earliest days the labor movement has sought to improve the quality of work life, create workplace democracy and participate in employer/employee decision-making.

Letter: Just let voters decide, they know best
First off let me thank Merilee and Matforce for their work on Methamphetamine, Alcohol and Tobacco issues. As well as synthetics and recently beginning to address the opiate issues that are taking more lives day by day.

Letter: Mayor Joens' guidance has been much appreciated
These past couple of years have been the best years of my life and it is mostly thanks to Mayor Diane Joens.

Letter: Here's a good use for those tomatoes that refuse to ripen
This spring I planted tomatoes in an attempt to have a few that tasted like Mom used to grow and have been dismayed at the results -- apparently it has had more to do with our weather than my inexperience in farming.

Letter: Marijuana is about BIG business
It was so disappointing to pick up the Verde Independent on August 20th and read the quote on the front page "The Verde Valley's future is cannabis."

Saturday, August 27, 2016

Letter: Get out of the way and just let the voters do their job
I read that our County Attorney, Sheila Polk, is party to a legal action attempting to prevent the initiative to legalize recreational use of marijuana from being placed on the ballot.

Letter: Council must do the research, ask questions and vote in the best interest of Camp Verde
The mayor's response to my letter in the paper contained misleading and inaccurate statements. I have read Camp Verde Town Code, the Town of Camp Verde Financial Operations Guide and the State of Arizona Procurement Code as well as had several communications with Michael Showers, Camp Verde Finance Director and also spoke with the State of Arizona Procurement Office Compliance Officer. See below my findings and conclusions.

Letter: Awarding bids because they are local is not justification for accepting a higher bid
This letter is in response to Ms. Dee Jenkins' letter posted Aug. 16, 2016. "Letter: All things considered, I still would have favored National Bank."
Saturday, August 20, 2016

Letter: America can survive Trump's ego, but not the alternative
It doesn't take an economist to know that politicians promise results they know they can't produce if elected ("Economists skeptical about pledges",USA Today, 8/14/16).
Thursday, August 18, 2016

Letter: Bill Helm is one of the best reporters around
Bill Helm has written articles about me and my books for the second time in two years (July 4, 2016- "Writing with Introspection"). From novels to now children's books. (Pen mightier than Sword-August 17, 2016). And I have read his other work for years!
Thursday, August 18, 2016

Letter: All things considered, I still would have favored National Bank
I attended the August 3rd council meeting and would like to comment on what transpired regarding the agenda item requesting approval for the Finance Director to sign a loan contract financing $543,000 (Wastewater Division Sewer Vacuum/Jetter Truck and Camera Van).

Tuesday, August 16, 2016

Letter: Thank you so much, 'Manny' was very honored
On July 10, 2016, a memorial golf tournament was held in honor of my husband, Manuel Ballesteros.

Tuesday, August 16, 2016

Letter: We are now harvesting our mistakes
There's nothing surprising in the GenForward poll ("Youths say parties do not represent them", AZRep, 8/7/16) showing most young adults feel the parties do not represent them.
Tuesday, August 9, 2016

Letter: All of America should see Hillary's America
I seldom go to the movies but I heard the documentary on the Democratic and Republican parties and how they were founded, and it aroused my interest. So we went to the Harkin's Theater in Prescott Valley.
Tuesday, August 9, 2016

Letter: Trump defeat will throw country head first into socialism
Nothing succeeds like success. The Republican Party's selection and probable defeat of Donald Trump may be the last gasp for a country moving inexorably toward socialism.

Saturday, August 6, 2016

Letter: Flashy presentation and a lot of hot air
Seeing pictures of a balloon ride made me think of our present political situation -- how high a person can rise with a flashy presentation and a lot of hot air.
