6/17/2014 2:22:00 PM Letter: Hope's best revenge is to grow up happy and strong
I wish to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and gestures in regards to the (what could have been) tragic accident for Hope. I wish she knew how many people jumped to her defense and sent such wonderful, positive wishes her way.
As of this morning, she is doing very, very well. Her deafness is complete and her sight is quite limited but she seems to do well in the light where she can detect shadows.
If we stand just right, she seems to be able to "see" us but often overshoots and walks right past. I don't know if she'll ever regain all of her sight, but I think she'll manage just fine. S
he is playing now with toys, including a tennis ball (until it rolls away). I'd say she is a typical puppy, although very quiet and ladylike.
Hope navigates our house and yard without difficulty. I suspect she has memorized her way. On the rare occasion she does lose her way, she lays down for a nap until she's found.
We are fortunate to have found her and so happy that she is a fighter. Her best revenge is to grow up happy and strong. She is well on her way.
Thank you again to everyone involved in her immediate care and to the newspapers, radio and TV stations that carried her story.
