Letter: Get off your duffs and get the government back on track

Editor:

Republican leaders, the majority of the American people are blaming you for the government shutdown. Your sole reason for the hold up is because of the Affordable Health Care Law. It's a law and one that was upheld by the Supreme Court. It was a major platform in the 2012 presidential election in which President OBama was re-elected.

If you truly believe this law is such a disaster why don't you just keep your mouths closed, wait for it to fail and then you can say, "I told you so!" Otherwise, get off your duffs and get the government back on track!

Cindy Harms

"...even screw up Romneycare…" ?????
Romneycare was screwed up in 2006. "As Usual" can't blame that on Obama or Reid or Pelosi.

"Over 500 MILLION of our tax dollars ... "
MJ needs to check his math. I found $400 million and change for the website and databases to date. Debugging will probably double that, but why exaggerate now?

"Even Mitt Romney endorses it."
Since when, Mary Jane? Last year he was doing everything he could to disown it and swear on a stack he'd never do anything like that again, simultaneously.

"Everyone's hoping the rest of the nation will halt this exodus via federal tax-funded grants and federally managed insurance coverage."
You're behind the times, itsy bitsy. Now Massachusetters are yelling, having discovered the federal law gives insurers license to cancel their current policies in favor of MUCH more expensive ones.

in her fanatical defense of the welfare state, Mary Jane unjustifiably maligns other commenters.

Boston Globe: "Health costs in Mass. are heading upward"

A few more points to consider:
* Premium base rates in Massachusetts are the highest in the country.
* Massachusetts received preferential “grace periods” from certain Obamacare regulations, so the full effect won't be felt until 2016:

One-size-fits-all Obamacare will even screw up Romneycare.

Article comment by: Facts are a bummer -

On the eve of the shutdown the GOP house changed the rules and made it so that only one person in the house could bring a vote to the floor of the house (GOP Maj. leader Cantor).

That rule change is the key factor in extending the shutdown... they could not play the game so they had to change the rules, how much like a selfish toddler is that?

The Tea-Pubs need to own their shutdown and stop blaming it on others.

By changing the rules on Sept. 30, House Republicans essentially guaranteed a government shutdown, since the ability to invoke the mentioned rule was transferred entirely to House Majority leader Eric Cantor, R-Va.

MJ... enjoy your own whines, howls and squeels... perhaps placing a sock in your parties mouth would quiet your exclamations.

@ Spider Woman,

As usual, you completely mislead everyone with your lies concerning health care in Massachusetts. The following survey was completed by Massachusetts doctors

The doctors in the study were asked to rate the Massachusetts system for providing medical care to people in the state. 63% of them rated it excellent/very good, 30% rated it fair, while only 6% rated it poor. However when asked to rate the nation’s system for providing medical care to all Americans, only 32% rated it excellent/very good, 43% rated it fair and a substantial 23% rated it poor.

Did you really think nobody would check you and that you could lie with impunity? Or did you get your information from the FOX/GOP tabloid news channel. You really must consider your sources.

Try as you may, you cannot lie your way out of this one! Even Mitt Romney endorses it.

I'm surprised, Ms Harms. In Massachusetts, the prototype of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 has accomplished nothing except higher insurance premiums. At the moment, the state is battling spiraling health provider costs. The major hospitals are merging into even more monolithic consortiums to fight the legislators' attempts to cap costs and impose managed care. The newly insured uninsured are dropping back out because they can't afford the price of this power struggle. Everyone's hoping the rest of the nation will halt this exodus via federal tax-funded grants and federally managed insurance coverage. And the bumbled roll-out of national health insurance exchanges, coupled with the bumbled application of other PPACA provisions, shows every sign of wreaking the same havoc with state health care systems from coast to coast.

Yet you want half the legislators in Congress to sit back, let this happen, and then chortle "I told you so"?

Since you think only Republicans can get the government back on track, that's a very strange position.

@ carol c

My retort to MJ was an attempt to 'mirror' image him in an attempt to show him how silly his rant was, this is a common tactic used by psychiatrists to show someone how they appear to others.

I knew, of course, that the attempt would be in vain, but somehow couldn't resist the urge!

I can't be the only one that finds the insults that fly back and forth in this forum entertaining!

P.S. I'm glad you liked it, MJ!

Let's put it in GOP perspective, eh?

Huffing & Puffing

"I want Taco Bell in charge of the parks," sobbed the chubby Neocon.

"And I want the Insurance Industry in charge of my health," bemoaned the corpulent conservative.

"And I want Wall Street to take all your money and let no-one tell me how to spend it," wailed the whiney, Ponzi Scheming Inside Trader.

"And I want the Investment Bankers to tell me where to rent," cried the foreclosed upon, previously middle class citizen.

"And I want the CEO vulture capitalists to wipe with me after they use the toilet," bawled MJ.

"We are too stupid and incompetent to make any decision about our lives.... please Please PLEASE save us T-Party extremists," whimpered all the hillbilly Republicans in unison...

I think we know who the real TAKERS are, eh...

You have confused the tabloid talking heads at FOX for the American public. This may be difficult for you to imagine, but FOX pundits are NOT representative of the American public!

MJ.

I guess if you believe that the shutdown will be 'no big deal', that excuses the Republicans for their lame actions. I guess that explains Glenn Beck and folks at the tabloid channel FOX trying to give the GOP clowns a way out.

I can't wait to hear the next rant from 'The GOP Enquirer'! After all, Enquiring Republican stooges want to know!
