I read with some interest your well done article regarding the so-called Verde Village "duck" pond. There are some things in the article that I feel need to be pointed out.
First, the birds are not ducks, they are geese. If there are any ducks, they are an isolated few. Next, it is ridiculous to think that people are dropping off geese at the pond to get rid of them. If there is a change in birds, it is probably because they are migrating and the pond is a stopping off place on their way to somewhere else.
I have been told by people who know more about this than I do, that these are wildlife and should never be fed by humans.
The most absurd thing in this article is that the volunteers of the VVPOA have taken birds out of the pond. As far as I know, this has never happened in the 40-year history of the VVPOA. Why would these people take the birds out of the pond, and what would they do with them if they did?
The people of the VVPOA regard the pond and geese as one of the nicest attractions we have in Verde Village, and the VVPOA is doing everything they can to preserve the pond and the geese in as good condition as possible.
