Well the City Council hit the nail on the head with the water rates.
Verde Village will support the water system in Cottonwood with a discriminatory rate increase. As an incentive to also force people into supporting annexation into Cottonwood by higher water rates.
This is no surprise to me, however, just remember this when did you ever see a decrease in utilities rates? Does anyone really believe that rates would change even if we were in Cottonwood City limits? If Verde Village water system was such a bad investment why did they buy it at all? To have a monopoly in the area controlling the market on water rights!
If this is not so and the City of Cottonwood needs a better rating why not sale the Verde Village system and improve their rating? Let it be said, If Cottonwood Water system starts losing revenue from this water rate increase they will be back for more.
Just as Flagstaff water system cried save water we are in as drought. So the people got behind the City and conserved water and soon after the People of Flagstaff got a water rate increase. The City said it was because they were not getting the revenue on the sale of water and needed to keep up the system. Sound like a rerun to me.
