Letter: Thanks for remembering Hot Shots

After the tragedy with the Yarnell Hill Fire on June 30, 2013, I wanted to do something to help the families of those firefighters who lost their lives fighting that fire. I was trying to decide what I could do to help out when a good friend of mine, John Alvey, owner of Alvey Signs, approached me with an idea to sell window decals. I thought this was a great idea so John and I started working together to design a logo.

Steve Beinhorn, owner of Imprints Label and Decal, saw what John and I were doing and asked to help out as well. John and Steve donated their time and materials to design and print nearly 1,000 stickers. They delivered the stickers to me and we began selling them around the community. The stickers were being sold for a minimum donation of $5 per sticker. As of Aug. 20, 2013, we have raised nearly $3,500.

As I drive around town I see more and more of the stickers on vehicles. So I just want to take this time to thank John Alvey and Steve Beinhorn for their work and donation of these stickers. Also, I want to thank everyone in the community for their generous donations as well as all the local businesses who held their own fundraisers.

Again, Thank you all very much. The Granite Mountain Hot Shots will not be forgotten.

All the money we raise goes to our Sedona-Verde Valley Firefighter Charities which is then sent to the Prescott Firefighters Charities and they make sure the money is distributed equally to those families. The Cottonwood Fire Department does not keep ANY of this money.

I think this is great how can you assure us that the money will go equally to the volunteers and full timers families? and will go immediately? I ask because I hear that there is a lot of money raised and some committee is holding it, not releasing it yet. Thanks.
