Letter: Highly impressed with Cottonwood Oak Creek School District

Editor:

Last week, I had the privilege of receiving a tour of the new Bright Bears Preschool from Superintendent Barbara U’Ren and several of her dedicated colleagues.

After the visit, I am deeply impressed by the Cottonwood Oak Creek School District’s commitment to early education, the enthusiasm and professionalism of their Preschool Director, Loretta Donovan, and their intention to expand the program so that even more of their young students have access to preschool education.

Kudos to COCSD and thank you to Superintendent U’Ren and her team!

Claire Louge

Why do you THINK parents take their students to American Heritage Academy?

Because attending a school with the lowest test scores in the valley is attractive?

No . . . it is because of the uniforms which give it a PRIVATE school feel, without the private school COSTS!

Don't tell me you didn't get the MESSAGE our media brainwashes into you EVERY day?

Rich good, poor bad.

nutso. Extremism in the promotion of elitism is no vice!

Not necessary, though. The chosen name is sufficiently elite.

Do you think kids who attend Bright Bears Preschool Academy will be satisfied graduating into a plain ol' public SCHOOL education? Oh, no. Their parents are going to demand their admission to the Prestigious (at commoners' expense) International Baccalaureate Mountain View ACADEMY. You can bet your booty on that.

Actually, the official name is the Bright Bears Preschool Academy. Since the definition of 'academy' is "a school for special instruction," the faux-elitist name seems to imply that this is an academy that teaches preschool, which is clearly not the intent.

If adding impressive-sounding but irrelevant words in a name improves educational value and/or student self-esteem, why stop at one? Wouldn't the kids feel even more privileged and important if they attended the Extraordinarily Bright Bears Preschool Academy of Exemplary Preliminary Learning?
