Letter: ‘Political Correctness’ in mainstream media

Dr. Benjamin Carson, speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast last week, had it right: “Political Correctness is dangerous.” And, I agree.

Today’s mainstream news media doesn’t refer to deaths caused by drunk drivers (9,878 in 2011), as “motor vehicle violence.”

Rather, such fatalities are correctly referred to as “negligent homicide” or “second degree murder” (Courts have ruled that DUI meets the malice standard required for murder, because it shows a conscious disregard for human life).

Indeed, Mothers Against Drunk Driving wouldn’t tolerate such intentional masking of the truth, in effect, shielding the fact that persons, driving under the influence, not runaway motor vehicles, caused these preventable fatalities.

Yet, today’s mainstream media regularly refers to murders committed by persons using a firearm (8,583 in 2011), as “gun violence.” Recent case-in-point: CNN, 2/10/2013, “Michelle Obama attends funeral of teenage Chicago gun violence victim.”

Doesn’t the memory of Hadiya Pendleton, and countless other innocent victims of the conscious act of murder, by any means, deserve the truth?

To do otherwise is to intentionally mask, not only the perpetrator, but the underlying causes of such heinous crimes against society. And, the question that begs to be asked is, Why?

Louis Carabillo

"Even Barrack Obama laughed a couple of times."

His Holiness Rex barry the First was faced with a choice ...... look angry (his first reaction), start shouting and kicking his feet like the two year old he really is inside...... or put out a nervous little laugh to hide his anger.

I mean ...... after all ...... how DARE this low life pleb say something like that ..... and that statement that the low life Doctor said about his Mother being an inspiration to the Doctor. ...... how DARE he ......

Poor Dr. Carson ..... you know that IRS and FBI agents are goin' over every inch of his life now ..... I wonder when Saturday Night Live will do a mockin' little sketch about the Doctor. .... or when David Letterman will say something nasty about the women in the Doctors life ....

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa (this is called a mockin' laugh in case you were wonderin')

That truly was a great speech, Mr. Carabillo. Even Barrack Obama laughed a couple of times.

hit that on the head Nux Man. I always call words like racist profile bigot and anti semitic as false guilt words. They are words that are placed on one person or a certain group of people to instill a false guilt. Thus allowing one person or a certain group of people to do whatever they want without anyone questioning their actions

Why you ask? One word answer, Marketing. Those who are in favor of limiting gun ownership found that the term gun control did not go over as well or make as emotional impact as the term gun violence, hence the answer is marketing. I don't see how it is politically correct, it's just more effective.

You do bring up a good point comparing gun related deaths to DUI related deaths which I think are actually called vehicular homicides. If a person commits a criminal act by using a gun to kill or wound someone and they are drunk when they do it, should they get a harsher sentence if convicted? How about brandishing a gun while under the influence? How about carrying a gun while drunk? Any thoughts?

Mr. Nux, do you really see Marxist conspiracy theories in the politically correct terminology such as calling Indians Native Americans? Or no longer calling black people what we now say as, "the N word."? Those are the kind of examples most of us think of when asked to define politically correctness. Sure, some have taken it to extremes and those people are properly ridiculed for it.

Just remember, the message is all about marketing, nothing more.

Great letter from Mr. Carabillo.

The bias in the predominantly liberal media can be so subtle and unobtrusive that we do not notice it. Or question it.

I think that's the idea.

Political Correctness was devised by Marxists at the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt in 1923 to promote the stagnating communist revolution. It became known as The Frankfurt School, and directly inspired Mao to coin the term "speech code" and other nefarious ideas of his, like "sensitivity training", which killed millions.
There are many notable members of this "School" over the decades, that promoted ideas like teaching kids to embrace servitude and fidelity to the state over all else,............ sound familiar?
Political Correctness is Cultural Marxism, created to subvert free peoples by training the children in schools, most directly in universities.
Political Correctness is B.S. in it's purest form. It's the lie's of long dead maniacs being used by present day maniacs to further their own power trips.
However, the intent was, & still is, to slowly, methodically, over as much time as it may take, to "train" masses of people to be afraid of their own thoughts, and therefor give up their individuality for the sake of the whole - let "the man" run their lives because they can't.
I have no doubts as to why so many people are out of work and welfare is soaring - Barry did say Marx was one of his favorite writers, and Occidental College, Columbia University, and Harvard Law are ground zero for The Frankfurt School teachings.
Only through political correctness could we see idiots like the senator who worried that Guam would tip over, or a congress that gives millions to a battery co. that never makes a battery, or a second rate doper student with no skills get into the white house, twice.
Nothing has ever presented such a clear & present danger to this country than political correctness.
