Letter: Women are naturally better welders

Editor:

Women can also be welders. I was reading MUHS members of the Skills USA welding team were having a skills contest. Camp Verde hosted the competitions. I would like to say any girl can be a welder. Women make good welders because they usually have a more steady hand.

My welding teacher in Seattle told me to get into TIG welding. I do not know if Mingus teaches T.I.G welding but the stinger is small and very easy to handle. I used to work at Lockheed Ship Yard in Seattle. I was an arc welder.

I should have listened to my teacher and stayed with aluminum. The pay is better than steel T.I.G is cleaner than arc.

You may believe you have better motor skills, but using your typing prowess as a reference, you really aren't proving your point! Or is it the English language that is giving you the problem?

Article comment by: Very sexist

Encouraging women to go into a nontraditional field is one thing, but it is very sexist to say women "usually have a more steady hand."

I see no reason to believe that is true, and more importantly, one should be judged on actual performance rather than prejudged based on gender.

Prejudice based on gender, race, ethnicity, religion, skin color, etc. is wrong.
