Letter: Our Judeo-Christian heritage is being challenged like never before

Editor:

In this nation our news media outlets often claim that we live in a Democracy, which in the basic definition of the word is inaccurate.

Our local elections are supposed to be majority of the popular vote, the point being that at least to some degree in this country there is a view that there is supposed to be majority rule and on some very important and controversial subjects nothing could be further from the truth.

Example: Where and when did we or any of our elected representatives ever have a vote of any kind about abortion? Even when we do have a vote on something, a large segment of the Christian community does not vote, because they are Christian and they think that in being Christian they are not supposed to be involved in politics. This thinking is mostly because of the deceptive erroneous mantra of “Separation of Church and State.” We Christians need to adopt the Missouri Motto of “Show Me” about that subject.

Christians and Jews collectively are and have been the majority and the “Founding Fathers” of this Nation since before its inception, and historically in the early days of the nation Christians were very active in political decision making. Now we have become a joke for the comedians on late night TV.

The phrase “Born-Again Christian” today has little meaning. A few years ago it was considered almost like leper of olden days. In the early days of this nation, it was like a badge of honor. A few Christians actually stand tall throughout modern society. Most have subjected themselves to being persona-non-grata as far as the general public is concerned. The spirit world is not understood and is unreported in the mainstream news. The spirit world is a major key in today’s moral dilemma.

Satan worship is a measure or actually a common thread that you can find in all the attackers in the mass killings in America, even though it has not been reported as such in the mainstream news media and very little even with anyone else. I understand why to a large degree; it is hard to report something that you do not understand or do not believe and anything that is supernatural scares reporters and especially their bosses, so things that even have solid physical proof never get reported.

Perhaps that is why the V.I. letter 12/23/2012 contains a question about the Newtown, Conn., killings that is beyond belief: “Do his motives even matter? Absolutely, they matter especially when you tie his actions on the same thread that runs through the perpetrators of mass murders everywhere in the country and that thread is Satan worship, which I believe to be closely akin to witchcraft and the Sharia/Shariah Law of the Moslem/Muslim religion.

In order to not offend anyone, we in the totally gutless Christian community sit on our lifeless posteriors and allow the nation’s political leaders and news media to ignore the obvious and blame inanimate objects, like guns for the problems. Standing against witchcraft, Satan worship, Shariah Law and atheism by a united front of Christians and Jews (both Messianic and Orthodox) in this nation with prayer, more prayer and confrontational action will do more toward straightening out the situation than anything else.

And if you do not believe in confrontation because you think Jesus was passive, refer to how he whipped the “money changers” in the temple. Sometimes words need to be backed up with action. If you will do what you can do even if it is only praying, do that. Prayer -- intercessory prayer in agreement with other concerned believers is undoubtedly the most important part for you, unless the Lord calls you to take action. Action may involve preaching, public speaking, teaching, writing and/or talking to your friends and neighbors. It does not necessarily mean protesting or protests.

Our Judeo-Christian heritage is being challenged like never before. We cannot afford to sit on the sidelines and watch because that is what has brought to this point; and this point is and has become demeaning and reckless with our responsibilities as citizens of the United States and our relationship with Almighty God.

This letter reminds me of the truth in what Ghandi said: "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians, they are so unlike your Christ."

So much for Mr. Gohr and his off the wall extremist interpretation of the Judeo-Christian heritage.

It seems that most of the posters in both the Bugle and the Verde Independent that have responded to Mr. Gohr's religious extremism (assurance that Satan is behind all evil acts) might agree with my request that his letters be published in the religious section of the papers. That way the public opinion section would have more space for those who prefer to back up their opinions with facts.

some of you would actually read real history from a real textbook. Some of your have been taught some extraordinary misconceptions which you have then elaborated upon (Dale, Mary Jane).
One thing such pontificators have to be grateful for is freedom of speech. If I had been the editor of this paper, there is no way I would have printed such hatred and vehemence. Dale is doing the exact thing he is demonizing: spreading hate, inciting riot, and promoting knee-JERK reactions without any real thought, consideration, or careful diliberation following any verification of FACTS.

This has to be one of the most outlandish commentary I have seen! Seriously Dale, Satanism, Wichcraft? Oh such an easy thing to do, blame it on something that you can't see, therefore you don't have to do anything. Make something evil it makes it easier for people like you to hate it and kill it. Dale this is the 21st century not the 1500's.

To equate Sharia and Muslems to whichcraft and satanism is such an insensitve insult it almost defies logic! You know nothing of the world Mr. Gohr and I feel so very sorry for you.

The 20 year old that commited the atrosities in CT. had sever Aspergers syndrom due you even know what that is? Oh ya I forgot your version of christianity doen't belive in the mentaly ill, they are all demone possed, right Dale? It was also stated in the papers that the mother was a doomsday prepper, all into apocolypse and such she may have scared that poor 20 year old half to death with all here fear and paranoia, who knows how his damaged mind interpreted the things he learned and saw. We will never know, and if your logic prevails we will never prevent or understand any thing the future throughs at us, because you will just say it's the Devil or some such silly bs.

I think this articlae is condisending and outright insult to the intelligence of modern man.

Lee Cali, you want Dale Gohr's letters to go in the religious section of the newspaper. Where should they put your letters and John Bond's? Is there a grumpy and depressed section for your "opinions"?

I quit reading Dale's latest rant in paragraph three when he wrote: "a large segment of the Christian community does not vote, because they are Christian and they think that in being Christian they are not supposed to be involved in politics."

Huh?!

Thanks, Dale. Your basic assertion is correct. If those who claim to be Christian actually followed Jesus' teaching as attributed to him in the Bible, oh, what a wonderful world it would be!

Just think, charity for the poor, the sick and the sinners. Non violent protest of the military/industrial domination of our society. The value of love of God over materialism or political influence or military power. Tolerance for all fellow "children of God".

I can hardly wait! Who knows? (The Mayans say we're beginning a new 5000 cycle.)

Y'all just don't get it, sitting in your fancy churches, showing off your Sunday best . . . GOD has been replaced by . . .

MONEY!

Even the Churches want it and they get it TAX FREE! Then they use it to start major businesses, like the Catholics and Mormons.

Wake up SHEEPLE!

a course of meds, too.

Paranoia runs rampant twixt you two.

Hint to MJ: If you would quietly and privately live your Christian life trying to imitate Christ-- He of the 'first stone' statement-- you might feel a lot better than you do living the closed-minded hypocritical one you present here.

"Satan worship is a ... common thread ... in all the attackers in the mass killings in America…"

Mr. Gohr, can you provide a citation for that claim?

Outside of "spirit world" influences, the most common thread in mass killings is that the mass killers are intelligent sociopaths who are taking, or have recently stopped taking, a prescribed psychiatric medication. So, if we're looking for Satan worship, we need to analyze the killer's analysts.

Here we go again.

First of all, that's pretty clever rationale you've spun up, there, trying to make a case for abortion rights being upheld in election being somehow not a true representation of the will of the people. Good imagination. Same for your conclusion that only those of your faith give any credibility to anything supernatural.

No sir, the only thing being challenged, praise to all that's holy, is the mentality you're illustrating perfectly by your letter. That you and others who ascribe to traditional Judeo-Christian dogma have the monopoly on spiritual truth, and that anyone who believes otherwise is some kind of lost, deluded, nonpatriotic and satanic soul. I stand with God and all who know differently, and would happily give my life to support the rights of each and every person to their spiritual truth. And oh, hey...that's sounding oddly familiar to me! Wasn't that the kind of liberty our FOUNDING FATHERS established for us??? Details, details...

The scariest part of your letter is where you mention hoping many feel "called to action." I'm reminded of the saying: Never take your eyes of Fundamentalists of any sort, you never know what their god will tell them to do. Your carefully-neutral examples of what that "action" might be (intercessory prayer, preaching, public speaking, writing, etc.) don't match up at all with the "We must get off our gutless, lazy butts and take confrontational action!" tone of your letter. It reveals the entirely human, rather than truly spiritual, place you're coming from, which is: "We Christians/Jews hold the ONLY spiritual truth, and having that truth behind us, we are ordained by God to _________...(fill in the blank)... Everyone rales about how violent certain MuslimSharia sects are well, what about those places in the bible that appear to condone and rationalize violence in the name of God?

As long as one angle of spirituality claims superiority over another, violence will be waged in the name of the Divine...which is the greatest perversion of all, IMHO. The distance between spiritual-superiority mentality and rationalized violence is one of the most slippery slopes mankind will ever navigate...

Ms. Cali, you use the VI's opinion section to parrot partisan talking points and promote your favored politicians. Do you not understand that ideological bigotry is no less annoying to some than religious bigotry is to others? Mr. Gohr is as entitled as you are to express his opinions in a public forum.

The biggest threat to a free society is censorship, and these days it seems that those in your political party are as eager as the most intolerant religious fanatics to engage in it.

There's no challenge to these beliefs. They are being used against us, by some rather skillful political elitists who claim to be Christians themselves.
Charity is a cornerstone of Christianity, and the USA bleeding out from it. Our government is now ruled by people who only want more - elect an honorable person and watch as the D.C. Machine subverts them too.
No, there's no challenge - there's only more cooperation towards draining every last ounce of integrity from a once noble nation.
The founding fathers put their lives on the line to create this country, countless veterans paid the ultimate price to protect it,.How many today would give up their perceived wealth to make the same sacrifices?
Go to work, pay your bills what were once values to live by have become yokes to advance an ideology of tolerance of evil. Isn't liberalism great?
