10/9/2012 8:01:00 AM Letter: The Verde is a true community treasure
Last Sunday, Sept. 30, the Verde River Citizens Alliance took 25 people, from as far away as Kazakhstan, on a Verde River canoe trip as part of the Verde River Days celebration.
They enjoyed the beautiful riparian habitat and warm clear water. The warmth was appreciated since due to miscommunication with the Cottonwood Ditch Association we lacked the water they usually provide, and had to do some boat hiking.
It was all part of the adventure and couldn’t have happened without assistance. Thanks to Dead Horse Ranch State Park, Mingus Union High School and the Verde Natural Resources Conservation District for canoes, paddles and life jackets. Thanks also to our 15 volunteer guides and shuttle drivers for their expertise and service.
The Verde is a true community treasure. The VRCA hopes that through public education and enjoyment of the river that our citizens will support efforts to Keep The River Flowing.
