Letter: Beware the coming Republican Theocracy

Consider this quote from a leading Republican presidential candidate:

“If I am president these children are not going to grow up in a secular country dominated by an elite who despise our history, dislike our culture and dislike our religion,”

“Our” religion?

Really, sir? “OUR,” national religion?

Please, tell me exactly which religion is dictated or endorsed by the Constitution?

Come on, Newt, try not to cut your hands knees any worse as you cower and grovel at the feet of the Christian fundamentalist voters!

Wow, what a choice the Republican candidates offer for the 2012 elections: One who would sell the collective soul of the people of United States to unfettered Corporatism and Greed (Romney) or one who would create a Christian Theocracy (Gingrich).

Or worse, one who would do both.

Phil Falbo

These right wing Christian nuts are scary-- and Santorum (or, should it be "Sanitarium?") is now leading the republican't theocratic cheers by questioning Obama's theology.

Oh, and Billy Graham Jr. now deny's the "Christianity" of the Mormon faith!

Got to grovel way, way, way, low to get the whacko 'real Christian' Fundamentalist's votes these days, I guess.

But, then, we are talking Republicans.

...but I'm sure you wrote that partially tongue in cheek, and know there's no worries that such a thing could ever take place -- although I wouldn't have been so sure up until recently! Personally I couldn't be more pleased with the hilarious circus the GOP's been generating. True colors are outing all over the place, making it so much clearer to everyone what "values" (though I use the term loosely) this party espouses and what would happen to our country should they come into power!

WHICH religion Newt?

You change religions like you change WIVES . . .

You were RAISED Lutheran,

then you were SOUTHERN Babtist and

now, you have CONVERTED to Catholicism.

Can't wait to meet your NEW wife and religion in the NEXT election . . . 2016?

Vote and Vote this type of politician OUT. We cannot allow this radical, unethical example of American to have power or control. Take a look at and carefully listen to all elected, appointed persons, at local, county, state and federal level. Americans cannot allow this type to proceed or get elected.

Lee, that's why they run for office. If they can get all the agnostics to pray, then their mission here is fulfilled.

But it sure is entertaining to watch the primary candidates "competing" to prove who is the most religious - especially Newt who is neither religious or moral.

Don't worry. Obama is going to breeze back in. We are talking landslide.I just hope we can re-take the House so we can get something done like the jobs bill. When the GOP placed as their highest priority, the protection of the wealthy from a slight increase to their tax rate, they lost the only shot they had.

And then there's the wild card--Rick Santorum. True, he was a senator from Pennsylvania, but after running a really interesting (?) campaign, he lost to a Democrat in 2006. Reading about him in Wikipedia is an education in itself. He rarely visited his home district yet claimed that address so he could have his kids in a "cyber" school free in that area. When the school billed him $73,000, he pulled his kids out and cried political foul. There are a lot of shady dealings mentioned in Wikipedia's article. He's another I wouldn't want for President.
