There is always plenty to do at the Verde Valley Senior Center and some great folks to hang out with. If you are new to the area, Elaine, Debbie, Michelle, Jerry and gang of volunteers will help get you acquainted. If you don't drive, there is always a shuttle.

The other day, Debbie Moore, the Senior Center's activities coordinator said 25 new folks had joined the fun and there was even a new couple from Germany.

Stop in for lunch

Lots of folks stop by for lunch and a good chat. There's usually great music served up before most days from 11:30 "til 12:30. Craig Johnson is a regular on piano with hits from the "30s-'40s. There is Pollyanna Sorenson or Joe Braley takes those hits into the 60s. Tino Encisco & Fran Judd and get together with Frank Martinez on Trumpet most Fridays. There are sing-a-longs and Karaoke, too

From 65 to 85 folks stop in for luncheon Monday through Friday. Meals on Wheels fare is prepared in the center's kitchen and volunteers will deliver 150 to 200 meals every day.

If it's Thursday, there's a hand of Texas Hold "em after lunch. It's always fun Monday after lunch for the Movie Matinee upstairs in the movie room.

Keep in shape

Keep in shape stretch with senior aerobics with several exercise programs during the morning hours.

There is even an interactive Nintendo Wii set up plus non-impact senior aerobics.

Debbie says there are a variety of regular activities, but there are also a number of special events depending upon the season.

The Prime Time Fair has grown so large that its now held at the American Heritage Academy gym in early May.

There is the Spring Crafts Fair and the Easter Bonnet Parade is always fun, with colorful hats, feather boas and Tender Hearts will bring the ice cream. Of course, Mardi Gras and more, and more. Something for every holiday!

If you are the real active sort, you will probably want to get together with Jerry Manzella and he can place you in a volunteer slot. Perhaps you and help with the driving, work in the kitchen or help with the games or activities.

The Senior Center also hosts special services such as a Medicare representative notary service, or grief and loss counseling.

Meet the cast.
