Verde Heritage 1921: ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
"A traveling distance of 35 miles will be cut off the route from Camp Verde to Flagstaff, by the repairing of the Rattlesnake Tanks road, now being undertaken. Repair of this road will make it possible to go from Camp Verde to Flagstaff without passing Stoneman or Mormon lakes. It is claimed this road will be much better as well as much shorter than the Mormon Lake route."

"A numbed crowd watched the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ersel Garrison go up in flames Thursday afternoon while the Cottonwood and Clarkdale fire departments battled to save something of the lovely old home which had been a landmark in the Verde Valley community of Cottonwood for 58 years."

Verde Heritage -- 1919: JEROME; Slag Dump Slides, May 29
"Five hundred yards of the new Verde Tunnel & Smelter Railroad track was damaged late yesterday afternoon when several tons of slag from the United Verde dump cascaded over the right of way near the site of the new depot. No one was injured in the avalanche, though the mammoth steam shovel at work on the bench on the 300-foot level was endangered, and was removed just in time to prevent being caught in the slide."

"The law invoked against the pool hall is incorporated in the city ordinances, which provide that the conviction of the proprietor of such an institution on a charge of permitting gambling on the premises automatically revokes the license. Fernandez was convicted 2 months ago, and fined $250 on this charge."
