Cottonwood Middle School students, Tuesday afternoon, lined three blocks of Mingus Avenue from the Clemenceau Heritage Museum to Brandi's Restaurant. The students joined the rest of the state in celebrating the historic Centennial, at 2:14 p.m.

While most did not have bells, students raised their voices in celebration and passing cars horns blared their participation and approval.

Also, fourth graders from Verde Valley Christian School and Mountain View Prep joined volunteers from Clemenceau Museum and members of the Cottonwood community to ring in the Centennial at exactly 2:14 p.m. on Tuesday.

VVCS students led the crowd in patriotic songs and "Happy Birthday" before Helen Killebrew counted down the seconds to the mass bell ringing that was part of a statewide celebration.

At the nearby Cottonwood Recreation center, a more traditional Centennial celebration heard Mayor Joens offer a few words and rang the historic bell, originally purchased for Cottonwood's first school, but later used to signal a fire in Old Town, where it was mounted in several locations, including the Cottonwood Hotel.
