Food Neighbors connect the community and help hungry

A gorgeous Saturday, Aug. 9, could not have been a more perfect morning to celebrate the first anniversary of the Yavapai Food Neighbors Project.

The cheerful crowd of friends and neighbors gathered again at the Outlet Mall to help unload and sort 279 green bags of generous food donations (with breaks to enjoy the watermelon).

Twenty-two dedicated Neighborhood Coordinators picked up those bags on doorsteps all over town and delivered them, a total weight of 3611 pounds, providing an amazing 3,009 meals to be distributed through our local Sedona area Food Banks and Youth Pantries.

Check out these YFNP statistics from the entire Verde Valley, knowing that a year ago with its inaugural Pilot Collection, this amazing Project took its first baby steps in the effort to help an overwhelming problem of local hunger:
