On March 15 the Sedona Winds Assisted Living Community will host a Garden Party - a community-wide event celebrating completion of a wheelchair accessible garden that will grow healthy vegetables, herbs and flowers.

The party begins at 2 p.m. with a social hour, followed by a ribbon-cutting program featuring leaders of the non-profit, faith and business partners who helped bring the dream to reality. Participants are asked to bring a plant: vegetable, herb or flower.

The Garden, as yet unnamed, will feature five raised planters and 15 wine barrels, providing space for nine cubic tons of dirt and ample water to produce the first crop this growing season.

Recently, 14 volunteers assembled the locally designed planters. A large paver patio, benches and a tool and equipment storage unit complete the garden. It is planned to be not only a garden, but also a place for friendship building, reading, time in the sun, solitude - a healing place.

The Garden Project is a partnership effort of several local non-profits, faith groups and individuals that have provided volunteers, financial and in-kind gifts.

Financial donations may be sent to Gardens for Humanity, P.O. Box 1202, Sedona, AZ, 86339; or: Gardensforhumanity.org. Information? 928-254-8998.

All are welcome to this community-wide party at 475 Jacks Canyon Road, Village of Oak Creek.
