You have been the best part of writing this column
By: Tim Westbay
OCC Men's Golf Association

After over 10 years of writing this monthly column, the time has come to 'retire," and turn it over to new blood. Sam Marzenell, our assistant golf professional, has graciously agreed to pick up the reins.

While most of you know Sam, some other background facts are worth noting. Although a native of Minnesota, Sam most recently came to us from Maine, where he had graduated from college (majoring in history and political science) in 2004, after which he began his golfing career. His first stop was at the Cape Arundel Golf Club, where he did almost everything. He then joined the Cape Arundel Golf Club in Kennebunkport, where he was First Assistant Golf Pro. Along the way, he also worked as Head Pro at the Dunegrass CC in Old Beach, Me., as well assistant pro at Wentworth By The Sea Country Club In Rye, NH.

He continues to sersve on the PGA continuing education program, as well as osther committees. Beside this, he is also one hell of a nice guy. So we wish Sam well as he undertakes this new assignment. And I'm sure he would welcome your ideas for stories.

For my part, I have thoroughly enjoyed this part of my "career". You have put up with almost anything that I have written over the years, including trips to Australia, China, and Antarctica.

And over the years, I have "interviewed" many of you for these articles, including Sammy Davis, Heather Risk, John Cornelious, Dan Brown, and others.

But most of all, I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know all of you, who are truly the greatest people in the world.

As my last "favor", don't forget the 6th Annual Marine Corps League Charity Golf Tournament, which is scheduled to Saturday September 7 at Oakcreek Country Club. It's a great event, which benefits a number of worthy causes, including Wounded Warriors, Toys for Tots, and others.

And as they use to say in ending all stories.....-30-
