Red Tee Report: Forshee, Meiner top Interclub match
Red Tee Report December, 2012

Winter is coming and our snowbirds are back. Many of our members migrate from parts north to spend their winters with us here in lovely Sedona. Why Sedona? Aside from the obvious, we are fortunate to have OCC, which provides us with reasonable memberships and allows us to walk the course. New this year is a special membership plan for a limited number of rounds for part-time residents. Perfect for those who golf only one or two rounds a week.

The season is winding down, and the last Interclub was at Verde Santa Fe on November 13. Dot Forshee won 1st low net in the 3rd flight and Carol Meiner won 1st low gross in the 4th flight.  In addition to this great representation, Joy Hope won $75 in the 50/50.

The OCC Club championships were held early in November, with Lori Zaun showing up again in first place as Club Champion, Women’s Division, and Allene Richlie as Women’s Net Club Champion. Congratulations to both for games well played!

The transition from the AWGA handicap system to GHIN went very smoothly with hardly any signs of change, other than the availability of the mobile GHIN app.

It’s available free for phone or tablet, very friendly, and handy for entering scores both home and away. The snowbirds will love it. Since OCC allows us to enter scores via Internet, we now have three ways to watch our handicap records.

Remember that your index reflects your POTENTIAL scoring ability rather than your actual, and therefore we play to our handicaps only about 30 percent of the time. When you play to your handicap you are having a good day!

Looking ahead, the State Medallion tournament is on December 2 at Oakwood Golf Club in Sun Lakes. Best wishes for success to Lori Zaun and Dawn Bush, who will represent OCCWGA.

The Battle of The Sexes is scheduled for December 4 and 5, a match play contest between the ladies’ and the men’s leagues. This one is about having fun, so don’t be shy — there’s still time to sign up!
