Kachina Point offers disaster preparedness training

Kachina Point will host disaster preparedness training, free of cost to the community, featuring Joshua Wells of Sedona Fire Department, Feb. 9, 10 a.m.

What would YOU do in the event of a local DISASTER?

Planning allows us all to prepare for and respond to anticipated disruptions and potential hazards following a disaster.

When asked about 2012 and doomsday reports, Wells says, “I don’t live by the Mayan calendar or any end of the world predictions, but emergencies such as wildfires, heavy snow storms or flooding are potential threats to this community.”

“We have become too comfortable with modern conveniences at our finger tips. It is prudent to be prepared with basic survival supplies.

"Community preparedness also takes the load off emergency personnel whose resources are depleted across the country as we all well know.”

He adds, “let’s not forget about Hurricane Katrina.”

Wells’ presentation will include material from the CERT program. (Community Emergency Response Team) The website is http://www.citizencorps.gov/cert/training_mat.shtm#IS317.

He will also outline the local community disaster plans already in place. The program is expected to last approximately 1 1⁄2 hours with additional time allotted to ask questions at conclusion.

Wells will also provide resources on where to purchase home disaster kits. Call Dena at 928-284-2417 for additional information.
