The last two weeks have been very busy for the Flip City Gymnastics teams. The Level 4 competitive team traveled to Chandler High School on Nov. 14 for the State Championships. The Level 5 team competed the following weekend at Deer Valley High School in Glendale.

Five gymnasts competed on the Level 4 team for Flip City: Tiana Pierce, Vanessa Ramirez, Aspen Stanton, Jeralyn McQuaid and Adrianna Moody.

Pierce had an impressive meet, with a 3rd place All Around finish in the Senior C Division. Pierce placed 6th in Vault (9.5250), 3rd on Bars (9.1500), 2nd on Beam (9.4000) and 4th on the Floor (9.3000) for an All Around score of 37.3750. What is even more impressive with her performance is that she finished 7th overall in all divisions in her session.

Ramirez also did very well with a 3rd place finish in the Junior D division. She placed 3rd on Vault (9.5750), 6th on Bars (9.0250), 5th on Beam (9.0000) and 8th on Floor (9.1000) for an All Around score of 36.700.

Stanton finished 14th in the All Around in the Senior C division with a score of 35.425. She placed 11th on Vault (9.3500), 22nd on Bars (8.0750), 12 on Beam (8.7500) and 6th on Floor (9.2500), which was good enough for a medal.

McQuaid earned four medals at the State meet with an All Around score of 34.975, which was good enough for 8th place. She placed 11th on Vault (9.1500), 6th on Bars (8.8000), 15th on Beam (8.2500) and 12th on Floor (8.7750).

Rounding out the group was Moody. Moody is a 1st year gymnast with some exciting finishes in the Vault and Floor competitions. Moody placed 26th in the All Around with a score of 33.350. She finished 9th in the Vault (9.3000), 28th on Bars (6.7750), 23rd on Beam (8.1000) and 6th on Floor (9.1750).

The Level 4 team placed 14th out of the 28 teams competing at the State Meet. The gymnasts have a lot of potential to have an even stronger showing next year.

The Level 5 team from Flip City competed in the State Level 5/6 Championships on Nov. 21-22. Flip City brought eight gymnasts to represent the Verde Valley and came away with an impressive 7th place finish with an overall score of 109.975.

Competing on the Level 5 team for Flip City were: Aleonna Sanchez, Sharon Goglin, Anna Furrey, Lexi Harmelink, Lauren Nevitt, Katelyn Prouty, Cassidi Long and Andrea Simms.

Sanchez led the team with a 2nd place in the All Around in the Senior A division. Sanchez was the Level 4 State Champion last year and had dominated the Level 5 meets this year. But then a week before the State meet, Sanchez broke her finger. In gymnastics, this can be a devastating blow. But Sanchez toughed it out and put in a very strong performance against the best Level 5 gymnasts in the State.

Sanchez won State Championship titles in the Vault (9.3000) and Beam (9.6000). She also placed 4th on Bars (9.3000) as she competed through the pain of grasping the bar with the broken finger. Sanchez rounded out her scores with a 2nd place finish on Floor (9.6000).

Also competing in the Senior A division was Cassidi Long. Long finished 13th in the All Around with a score of 33.400. She placed 16th on the Vault (8.5250), 12th on Bars (8.4500), 10th on Beam (8.5750) and 16th on Floor (7.8500). She had the 3rd-best score on Bars for Flip City and helped the team place 7th overall.

Sharon Goglin had a solid performance in the Senior D division at State with a 5th place finish in the All Around with a score of 35.100. She placed 13th on the Vault (8.6250), 14th on Bars (8.1500). She then medaled on the Beam with a 3rd place finish (9.2750) for her best performance ever in the event. Then she finished 6th on the Floor (9.0500.

Anna Furrey competed in the Senior D division as well and finished 7th in the All Around with a score of 34.825. Furrey claimed a State Title on Vault with a 9.3000. She finished 3rd on the Bars (9.1500), 18th on Beam (7.4750) and 7th on Floor (8.9000).

Lexi Harmelink competed in the Junior B division and placed 13th in the All Around with a score of 34.275. She placed 12th on Vault (8.7250), 15th on Bars (7.6500), 5th on Beam (8.7000) and 8th on Floor (9.0000).

Lauren Nevitt competed in the Senior C division and placed 13th in the All Around with a score of 33.750. She had the strongest meet of her gymnastics career, improving on Floor and Beam by one full point in each event. Nevitt placed 14th on Vault (8.6500) 16th on Bars (7.7000), 5th on Beam (8.7000) and 11th on Floor (8.7000).

Katelyn Prouty finished 13th overall in the Child C division of the meet with an All Around score of 33.725. Prouty had her best floor routine ever. She placed 8th on Floor with a score of 9.0250. She also placed 13th on Vault (8.7000), 16th on Bars (7.9500), 15th on Beam (8.0500).

Andrea Simms competed in the Senior B division at the State meet and finished 14th in the All Around with a score of 33.400. Simms placed 6th on Vault (9.0250), 18th on Bars (7.2000), 11th on Beam (8.2250) and 5th on Floor (8.9500).

The top three scores from each team are counted for the final team results at the end of the meet. Flip City placed 5th on Vault (27.625), 11th on Bars (26.900), 7th on Beam (27.775) and 11th on Floor (27.675).

Flip City will have gymnasts that compete at Levels 4, 5 and 6 next year as the program continues to grow and get stronger. For more information about Flip City, log onto www.flipcitygym.org or call (928) 639-2852.
