The Mingus Union High School Track and Field team competed in the 4A II State Track meet at Mesa Community College on Wednesday, May 7 and Friday, May 10. In the hot 98-degree weather the Marauders went toe-to-toe with the best in the State.

The girls team tied for 15th 13 points and the boys finished in 18th with 14 points. Leading the girls team was Sara Raber in the 400-meter run with a 3rd place finish in a time of 1:00.38, just missing her goal of finishing under 60-seconds.

The 4x800 girls relay team of Carly Blair, Lisa Rauch, Nicole Powers and Sara Raber finished in 8th place in 10:18.77. Blair also finished in 8th place in the 300-hurdles in 49.50.

In the long jump, Jill Peterson placed 9th with a jump of 14-feet, 9-inches. Leslie Kinkade placed 4th in the pole vault at 9-feet.

On the boys' team Aaron Hauser finished 5th in the shot put with a throw of 48-feet, 2-inches. The 4x800 relay team of Bruce Logan, Ky Mickelsen, Alex Stratz and Daniel Jaimes placed 6th overall in 8:30.69.

In the 3200-meter, Tim Freriks led the Marauder pack with a 3rd place finish in 9:36.88, bettering his seeding time by over 16-seconds. Sam Hays also improved his qualifying time by 7-seconds to finish in 8th place in 9:46.79. Rounding out the group was Wilson Cutbirth in 10th with a time of 9:51.59, beating his seeding time by six seconds.

Freriks also placed 14th in the 1600-meter race in 4:38.11

Robert Ortiz finished 11th in the pole vault with an 11-feet, 6-inch vault. Ortiz also finished 12th in the triple jump (40-03.50) ahead of teammate Michael Cartia in 16th (39-07.50).

The Marauders will lose six seniors that made it to the State finals. Those athletes are: Nicole Powers, Lisa Rauch, Bruce Logan, Ky Mickelsen, Aaron Hauser and Sam Hayes.
