Aftershock qualifies five for nationals, Fenn wins 17-18 girls Region 10 Championship
The Aftershock Distance Running club traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico this weekend for the Region 10 Championships. The Aftershock crew was able to qualify five of their runners to return to Balloon Fiesta Park three weeks from now for Nationals.

Cowboys and Marauders face-off in preseason scrimmage
To start off the 2014 season the Camp Verde Cowboys Girls Basketball team won 12 of their first 13 games. The Mingus Marauders didn't see as much success, winning four of their first 13. Both teams might see different results in 2015 but for now they are getting set to open up their seasons in the next week.

Mingus boys soccer cruises by Joy Christian
Early this week, Mingus Boys Soccer Coach Calvin Behlow said he expected two of his returners from last year's team, Ezekiel Behlow and Luis Hernandez to carry some of the offensive load this year. On a cold, starry Friday night, the third-year Head Coach got exactly what he expected as the Marauders defeated Joy Christian, 6-0.

Briana Young takes over as Head Coach at Mingus
Mingus Girls Basketball Head Coach Dave Moncibaez decided to take his talents to Sedona Red Rock for the 2015-2016 basketball season leaving the Mingus girls program without a Head Coach.

Enter, Mingus alumni and former freshman team coach, Briana Young and the Marauders are ready to take on the 2015-2016 season.

Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest to be held at Clarkdale Elementary
On Saturday, the Jerome Elks Lodge located in Clarkdale will be hosting the local Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest.

The Local Shoot will be held at the Clarkdale Elementary School Gym. The Elks "Hoop Shoot" Free Throw Contest is the largest and most visible of the many youth activities sponsored by Elks Lodges.

Cowboys look to rebound from early exit in 2014
The Camp Verde Girls Basketball team took an early exit from the State Playoffs last year, when the No. 9 ranked Cowboys lost to No. 24 ranked Chinle, 43-36.

The Cowboys graduated five seniors including leading scorer Mariah Daniels. Head Coach Mark Showers says, Daniels was one of the top five players he has ever coached.

Lobos impress at 24th annual Mingus Mountain Tournament
415 wrestlers from around the state of Arizona traveled to Cottonwood on Saturday for the 24th annual Mingus Mountain Wrestling tournament.

Teams from Yuma, Tucson, Phoenix, Prescott, Flagstaff, Page, Tuba City, and the White Mountains were just a few places that teams came from to compete in the tournament.

Cowboys look to seniors for leadership
The Camp Verde Boys Basketball team ended their 2014-2015 season just under .500 last year, the good news, eight games of those losses were by five points or less. After only losing three seniors to graduation, two who were starters, the Cowboys look in position to rebound for a great year.

This past weekend the Aftershock Distance Running club traveled to the USA Track & Field State Cross Country meet at Friendship Park in Avondale and returned with two individual state champions and seven medalists.

COTTONWOOD- The "Buddy Rhodes Era" ended last year when the Mingus Girls Soccer team made their ninth trip to the State Playoffs in ten years. Unfortunately, the Marauders season ended in a quarterfinal match up with Fountain Hills.

Kole Calhoun, you may have not have heard the name before but after this offseason it's more than likely you will.

Calhoun was a graduate of Buckeye High School, and attended Yavapai College in Prescott before heading to play for the Sun Devils at Arizona State University in Tempe.

Mingus Wrestling looks to rebuild after down season, plagued by injury, sickness
For the Mingus Marauders Wrestling team, the 2014-2015 season ended with a sour taste in everyone's mouth said Head Coach Tim McKeever. After losing a great group of wrestlers to graduation, McKeever says the 2015-2016 season may be about rebuilding more than winning with a team that only sports two seniors.

The Mingus Marauders boys basketball had a pretty average season last year in Head Coach David Beery's first year at the helm. Beery, who came from Grand Canyon High School before last year, made the playoffs all three years and looks to bring that success to Mingus.

This past Sunday, 80+ disc golfers gathered at Riverfront Park on a sunny day for the fourth annual Cottonwood Fall Classic. The tournament consisted of six divisions, Open, Masters, Grand Masters, Advanced, Recreational and Women's.

Vipers end Marauders season
At the beginning of the season Mingus Head Coach Bob Young said their goal was to return to the playoffs after missing out on the dance the past two seasons. The Marauders did that, and they earned a Division III Section VIII title in the process. That journey came to an end Friday night when the No. 7 Verrado Vipers (9-1) held off a late charge by the determined No. 10 Marauders (9-2) and enjoyed a first round victory by a score of 20-14.
