After two years as athletic director, Mingus Union head basketball coach, and social studies teacher, Mark Owens has stepped down from his role as athletic director, and the position is being taken over by Allen Mitchell.

Mitchell will continue in his roles of assistant principal and dean of students. The move was made "official" following a June 27, special board meeting, where his current contract was amended to include his new duties and compensation.

The move gives three of Mingus Union's administrative positions a new look, as Mitchell will be joining new principal Jennifer Chilton, and new super-intendant Dr. Paul Tighe.

While it is too soon to tell what kind of effect the trio of new hires will have on the athletics program, they are already hitting the ground running as they search for a new wrestling coach to replace former head coach Ryan Montgomery.
