Obituary: Donna Martinez 1949 - 2013
Donna (Baca) Martinez
Donna (Baca) Martinez

Donna (Baca) Martinez was called by our Lord on April 3, 2013 at age 64 after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was born on March 31, 1949 to parents Secundino and Elvira Baca in McNary, AZ.

Donna lived in St. Johns, AZ until the age of 9 then moved to Flagstaff where she attended school and graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1967. In January 1968 she married the love of her life Vincent (Guero) Martinez during the biggest snow storm in Flagstaff history.

They both worked together at La Fonda for many years until they opened their own restaurant in 1985 in Cottonwood known as Guero’s. After closing the restaurant in 2004 she worked at Wal-Mart in Cottonwood and Mold and Graphics in Clarkdale until her decline in health. She was a very inspirational woman who loved her family and friends very much and will be greatly missed.

Donna leaves behind her husband and best friend of 45 years Vincent (Guero) Martinez; daughter Jennifer (Shane) Martinez; son Vincent (Marcy) Martinez; grandchildren Ashton, Kaynen and Darien Loring and Andromeda and Dominique Martinez; sisters Delores (Richard) Perea and Petra (Bobby) Martinez and all her loving in-laws, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and wonderful friends. Donna was preceded in death by her daughter Dominique and her parents Secundino and Elvira Baca.

Services will be held at Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11:00am

Donna, I will truly miss you. You had become a very good friend. Even though we only knew each other through my job, I always looked forward to you coming in to see me. I pray for your husband and family during this time. I know that you are rejoicing with the angels. See you soon.

The members of the Yavapai Apache Nation would like to send their sincere condolences to the family. We at one time or another were customers at the Guerro's restaurant and Donna & Guerro were always pleasent to everyone and remained very cordial after the closing of Guerro's, many blessings & prayers as you all go through this trying time.

I am saddened to learn of Donna's illness and death. She was a sterling example to all those who came to know her. She had a sweet demeanor, and always took time to visit, even if it was just a minute or two. I pray comfort for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
