Richard Melvin McVannel
Richard Melvin McVannel, 68, of Cottonwood died December 18, 2012. H e was born June 27, 1944 in Gaylord, Michigan, the son of Peter Hector McVannel and Ailie Elizabeth Kuivinen McVannel.
Mr. McVannel was a graduate of Gaylord High School. He served his country in the Air Force earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He worked for Weyerhauser, Gaylord Building Construction, United Building Center, Petrosky, Michigan, ProBuild in Cottonwood and Sedona, Arizona.
He served on the Fair Board in Gaylord, Michigan and Beginning Experience in Boyne City, Michigan.
He was a member of the Verde Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and was the director of MUFON for six years in Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Louise Pierce and her husband Ben; Brother Keith McVannel.
Mr. McVannel leaves his wife of 24 years, Brenda; his children Brett McVannel (Alicia) of Gaylord, Michigan; Brian McVannel (Robyn) of Alpena, Michigan, Meaghan McVannel of Gaylord, Michigan, Amanda McVannel Richards (Joseph) of Boyne Falls, Michigan and Samuel McVannel of Conway, Michigan; stepchildren Richard Joyce of Traverse City, Michigan, Robert Joyce (Diane) of Omena, Michigan, Carol Stuteman (Chuck) of Boyne City, Michigan, Carrie Joyce King of Traverse City, Michigan, Christine Joyce Davies of Central Lake, Michigan and Carin Joyce of Elk Rapids, Michigan; 26 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
