Derryl Lynn Day, 65, of Jerome died February 15, 2012. He was born October 2, 1946 in Columbia, Missouri, the son of Dean and Lota Day.
He was a graduate of La Habra High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland.
Derryl served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He received a purple heart, medal of merit and the Vietnam service medal.
Derryl worked in fine art.
He was known as the “Grand Canyon Painter.”
He had an art studio/gallery at the Old Jerome High School for over 27 years. Derryl also worked for Shepard & Wesnitzer Engineering in Sedona for over 20 years. He also developed the film of 1969 Moon Landing.
He enjoyed painting and hiking in the Grand Canyon, where he hiked over 880 miles over the past 27 years.
Derryl will be remembered as a loving husband, son, brother, and father. He is honored and remembered by his mother Lota, father Dean, both of Cottonwood; sister Vicki Day of Cottonwood; twin brother Terryl L. Day of Cherry, Arizona; countless dear friends, his daughter Lauren Patridge of Flagstaff and the love of his life, his wife Shea. He will be sorely missed and forever loved.
