TIME TO CHANGE PUBLIC RETIREMENT FUNDING
No one wants to strip public service employees of their retirement benefits. Across the country, states are incurring long-term, massive, increasing debt due to over-generous plans. It's problematic that, in negotiations, the taxpayer isn't represented - lawmakers, judges, public employees sit on the same side of the table. Four judges have filed lawsuits preventing changes that might keep the retirement plans solvent while easing the taxpayer burden, citing our state constitution. In a rare opportunity, our legislators have proposed a resolution to amend the constitution, allowing changes where needed to keep plans and taxpayers solvent. We should jump at the chance.
