1930: JEROME COMPLETES CITY PAVING, June.

Verde Heritage

"JEROME COMPLETES LARGE CITY PROGRAM OF PAVING: Present Work of Linking Pavement of Hull Avenue and Clarkdale Highway Completes Plan."

"The linking up of the pavement of Hull avenue and the Jerome-Clarkdale highway at the Mountain View hotel on the county road, will complete an improvement program of the city of Jerome which has been in progress for over a year."

"During that time there has been put in some 3,000 feet of cement and about 2,300 feet of oil paving. Approximately $35,000 has been spent on the improvements, which were started early last year."

"The work done includes the highway on Clark street and out the Prescott highway to the city limits, which work included a concrete retaining wall, and the widening of the street to 24 feet. Near the Hampton house the street was widened an additional 10 feet and guard rails put in on the Main street section."

"Jerome avenue and First street were paved from near the Kauzlarich dwelling to connect up with Jerome avenue; during this time the city hall was built."

"In addition to all this work, several connecting steps of both steel and concrete construction have been put in for the convenience of pedestrians."

"On the strip of paving now being done, a retaining wall has been built near the Jerome Transfer barn, and a paving slab 20 feet wide put down."

"Traffic to and from Clarkdale is detoured around by the Daisy mine, but the work is being rushed, and City Clerk R. E. Moore states that they expect to finish it by July 1. While the detours make the route a little longer, the finished product will more than compensate motorists for the temporary inconvenience."
