Fly me by the moon
By Ted Grussing
In March... I took a series of photos of a jet crossing the sky and the moon was still high in the sky. I have a number of other shots using the moon as a ball on finger tips, visible through the hole formed by the thumb and index finger while giving the okay sign and other fun stuff. I keep coming back to this shot though and wonder where it was going, wishing I were up there too. Wonder if the moon looked that big to those in the plane ... cool if the plane could just pull up and make the crossing.
A very busy day today; death brings its own special details that need to be attended to and I am trying to get most if not everything done this week. Estate Planning and probate were a substantial part of our practice but it is different when it is your own ... oh well, we had everything in very neat order so it is going well. Began the design for the bulletin for the memorial service today, all of Corky's clothing went to Twice Nice thrift store today. All proceeds from the stores go to fund the Verde Valley Sanctuary which is a fabulous service for women in abusive relationships. http://verdevalleysanctuary.org/ Eight of the large shipping boxes and Corky liked nice things and I enjoyed getting them for her. We gave Hospice Compassus Corky's hospital bed and two air mattresses that change pressure points and they have promised that the items will go to those who are in need and cannot afford them. The good Dr. Tobin (friend and Corky's Neurologist) has found a couple of truly needy patients of his for me give Corky's wheelchairs to and I'll be delivering them next week. Many people are not able to afford chairs such as these and it is nice to know that they will be making another's life work as they did Corky's. Finally the 2010 F 350 Ford Van and lift go on the market and likely down to Handicap Vehicle Specialists (http://handicapvehicle.com/ )in Mesa for consignment sale after I deliver the electric wheel chairs. I talked with Stan who owns the company for a while today and it will seem funny not doing business with him anymore; we've been using his services since we moved to Arizona in 1992 ... great company and honest people. Going to keep my well-traveled 1995 Ford Van conversion ... love that vehicle and we've had it for over eighteen years and 344, 400 miles and it runs like a clock. Probably buy a Ford Edge as Annika really likes them.
I truly appreciate all the wonderful missives I received today and I will begin answering each and every one of them early next week; please keep them coming and I will answer them. If anyone in this life has been blessed, it is us and thank you to all the wonderful people who are part of our extended family. Life is beautiful and sharing it and helping others the ideal.
For donations to the NMSS in honor of Corky we would appreciate donations on the site I set up for gifts in her name. The link is: http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Events/HOM-General?pxfid=173306&fr_id=7540&pg=fund And in the alternative gifts to Church of the Red Rocks are appreciated. Corky loved the church and as we were going over the details for the service this afternoon, George gave me a letter that Corky had written to him in August of 1991. It was nice to see the smooth and gifted manner in which she wrote and her signature. Thank you George!
Thinking about putting an ad on Craig's List - "Well-worn Caregiver for rent - CHEAP!" - Naw, just kidding ... books to write, beauty that I see to capture, gems to cut and as weird as it may sound to you, I can travel now and my days no longer are dictated and shaped by the care I have given Corky. It was never a thing of necessity or compulsion , always a gift for my best friend and love.
Have a joyful day ... our little planet is still slipping into the vast unknown reaches of space ... perhaps all news channels could focus on what area of space we are to be traveling through tomorrow and the hazards we are likely to encounter ... smiles!
Be well ... keep breathing ... try to make the service November 16th , 1PM at Church of the Red Rocks
