Rosemarie Shemaitisos is the August 2014 Yavapai County Unsung Hero.

Shemaitisos is the driving force behind the Verde Valley Pink Heals Committee. She brought the Pink fire trucks, Pink Heals Guardians of the Ribbon to Jerome four years ago for a one day fundraiser for women in the Verde Valley with cancer.

She organized raffles, food, and commemorative t-shirts for the event. It was such a success she began working with other communities to continue the fund-raising events. About $1,800 was raised at the first event and in the past three years over $30,000 has been raised and benefited 16 women in the Verde Valley with cancer. Rosemarie has worked with each community that has sponsored this event to make sure that the message of what Pink Heals stands for is honored; 100 percent of the proceeds raised stays in the Verde Valley. She works with the local merchants for donations, local fire departments, City councils, and lots of volunteers to make sure we don't forget the women in our lives with cancer. This year the event is being combined with Acme Pizzeria's Slice of Hope in October and they hope to raise about $8,000. Without the guidance, dedication and persistence of Rosemarie, the Verde Valley Pink Heals/Slice of Hope event would not be what it is today. If you have an Unsung Hero in mind, contact Supervisor Davis' office at (928) 639-8110 or email deshannan.young@yavapai.us .
