On Aug. 17, longtime Cottonwood area residents Al and Lois Brownell celebrated 50 years of marriage at Nate's Cowboy Café with 55 guests attending for dinner, drinks, and dancing. Music was provided by Ron McLain and Greg Gould. The party details were arranged by Jason Brownell (son), Ashley Hestand (granddaughter), Holly Barnes and Traci Morrison.
After dinner the Brownells were surprised by a very touching speech given by their granddaughter, Ashley, recounting wonderful times spent together at both the Brownell's home and during many traveling experiences. A beautiful flower covered cake provided by Nikki Beath was cut and shared by Al and Lois with the same engraved knife that cut their wedding cake so many years before.
Several pictures of the Brownells, taken when they were much younger, were on display, along with the original "Just Married" sign that had been hung on the back of their 1954 Ford. The calendar cooperated for the Brownells by placing their anniversary on a Saturday, just as it was on the year of their wedding - Aug. 17, 1963.
