Cottonwood looks to upgrade Thunder Valley Rally event

COTTONWOOD -- The City of Cottonwood has hired a production company to take the Thunder Valley Rally motorcycle event to the next level.

The City Council Tuesday approved a contract with the new motorcycle event production company, the 4-Coyotes Production LLC.

While the company is a new one, the four participants have deep roots in the motorcycle community and have already produced motorcycle-related events in Arizona and the Southwest for years.

Parks Special Events Coordinator Hezekiah Allen said that while the Verde Valley has spectacular views, Cottonwood found that may visitors already spend a lot of time on their bike getting to Cottonwood and are not so enthusiastic about another 160-mile run, even though the participation grew in Cottonwood's second year of production.

The agreement calls for the company to "garner sponsorship dollars, solidify national entrainment and promote the Thunder Valley Rally."

Councilman Terence Pratt told the members that they already come with a great resume, even though the TVR is likely to be their first as a new organization.

Jim Moore did most of the talking. Moore already is part of the publication of the Arizona Biker Information Guide, a quarterly periodical of motorcycle events and advertisers. He and Ed LeClere also emcee for many events.

Moore says Cottonwood is the only Arizona city that has a Main Street open to motorcycles. He says Cottonwood could be the "Sturgis of the Southwest."

"Already, you are not much smaller than Sturgis," says Moore. Once local motels fill up, "outlying areas pick up the slack."

You will probably just want to block off larger sections of Main Street as the production grows.

However, they emphasized that it is the intention to encourage family activities.

Mayor Diane Joens said she has heard concerns that retailers did not know how to market to the biker community, and the group said they could help with that.

The agreement calls for the city to advance $15,000 to the promoters as seed money for the event.

I hate these loud bikes, but its not just Harley riders adding to increasing noise pollution in our area, but increased buzz of air traffic, big trucks and on and on. I realize Arizona has a firmly rooted hands-off my pleasures attitude but frankly this area with excessive racket, low brow attitudes, rapid growth and increasingly scarce water supply makes this anything but an ideal retirement area. I strongly urge anyone considering this area as a possible place for retirement to come rent and spend time here before making a huge mistake. Even Sedona is a far cry from the much more friendly place of fifteen years ago.

Article comment by: Thanks For Promoting Cottonwood As Biker Friendly

Wow! Who would have thought?! It didnĺt take long for the Hells Angels to decide that Cottonwood would make a good home for their new clubhouse. Thatĺs right folks, the City of Cottonwood took steps to embrace bikers ... even promote them using our tax dollars ... and now we have one of the most notorious outlaw biker gangs in the country setting up shop right here in our little town. Just lovely! Cĺmon Cottonwood, wake up. Spend your money on some other big event. Thunder Valley Rally just makes it more and more attractive for other biker gangs to come to our community. Yes, plenty of good people attend these events. Heck, our City Manager is a biker, so it must be OK, right? Unfortunately, weĺre setting the wrong tone, and as a result we now have the Hells Angels right on our Main Street. Time for the City Council to ask some tough questions and quit blindly supporting this event.

I'm not angry at all "me thinks". (Obvious evidence to the contrary on the name there, lol). Someone so out of touch with reality isn't likely to make me angry in the least. Interesting that you seize on the concept of 'anger' in response to open debate though. Projection anyone?

And while I didn't post any statistics (do a little research before embarrassing yourself), she didn't disprove anyone's statistics, with anything. That's the point, she's a yappy chihuahua, loud as heck but lacking any substantive bite. Peace

youre just mad david because she made your list of statistics obsolete with just one post

you really expected a link supporting a personal opinion that makes no scientific or factual claims

then post proof of these "highly educated individuals" you speak of

thanks and good luck

@ Gaia Gurl

Whether or not something is humorous is most often measured by the mores of the listener. I fail to see how accusing someone you don´┐Żt even know of being ´┐Żone dimensional´┐Ż qualifies as a joke, it is easy to see how it qualifies as ´┐Żname calling´┐Ż though. Something that you claim renders any subsequent comment from the offender as valueless. If the shoe fits´┐Ż.

I´┐Żll skip re-posting the link that leads right back to this page that you so thoughtfully provided. It´┐Żs an interesting technique, but I fail to see how it advances the discussion.

@ Maybe I missed something

You haven´┐Żt seen her call anyone a name? Really? See above. If it mattered I´┐Żm sure I could research back and give you more examples. Maybe we should have a contest to see who can research and find the most examples of Gaia being nasty and insensitive to those she disagrees with, it could be fun but for the fact that we´┐Żd all have to be subjected to her past venomous behavior again.

As for defeating her arguments on the basis of content, it´┐Żs wasted effort. Plenty of folks here have done just that, and yes, with verifiable data and links, but her inability to grasp logical progression and thought makes honest debate with her a lost cause. It is not possible to ´┐Żget Gaia´┐Żs goat´┐Ż because her apparent world view does not allow for her to be wrong in her own mind.

You try to frame this debate and characterize her detractors with the statement - ´┐ŻJust because you cannot comprehend, understand or even 'believe' the message does not mean you should 'shoot the messenger´┐Ż.´┐Ż But you didn't give any consideration to the possibility that maybe there is a greater or better educated understanding of the subject matter than that which she possesses. I have no desire to ´┐Żshoot the messenger´┐Ż, but I have no qualms about showing the messenger to be a hypocrite for the benefit of the ´┐Żsilent audience´┐Ż of these pages.

PS If you are truly going to defend her use of capitalization as a teaching device within the environment of political debate among peers, then you as good as admit that she is disrespectful in the extreme. Many of the people she ´┐Żargues´┐Ż with are highly educated individuals themselves, using grade school techniques to debate adults is incredibly condescending and reveals a lack of imagination and maturity.

@ Joe Smith

Odd how you post- "I just ignore it, not worth my time to respond just to judge another." - but you didn't ignore it, and you did take the time just to judge us. See the logic in your post? Ya, neither do I. )

I just love all the self rightous people on here who love to tell everyone how to act or respond. If you are so adamant about how other people should behave, I am thinking you should get a life. I just ignore it, not worth my time to respond just to judge another. I find it hilarious how none of ya ever find fault with what is said, just how it is said. It would be a sad, sad world if we were all alike and like you, to boot. Or maybe you all are just trying to get away from the subject, by making it all about how it is delivered. Lot's of assumptions being made about people you don't even know. You know what they say about when you assume something, right?

Do you make fun of your students the way you make fun of other people on here?
You are not a nice person at all. Your comments were not directed at me but you should be ashamed, whether you agree with someone or not, to let them get your goat and cause you to act in such an unbecoming manner. It's seriously like watching a playground fight when you respond. Very immature!!!

As a teacher, I can relate to Gaia Gurl's obvious frustration. It is difficult to talk to people who think posting links to support their position is lazy (it's not, it is a academic rule) or that dinosaurs existed 6 thousand years ago, when the Sumarians were inventing glue.

I have seen her make general references to the level of intelligence around here, but I have not seen her call anyone a name, yet I have seen people call her many names and jump to conclusions, that I saw no basis for.

It seems to me, Gurl gets attacked all the time, but she is in good company. Socrates, Galileo, Ghandi, Peracles, Mandela, etc.

Even Jesus . . .

Just because you cannot comprehend, understand or even 'believe' the message does not mean you should 'shoot the messenger.'

You really want to get Gaia's goat? Beat her at her own game . . . find a credible link to support your position or denouce hers. Those are the rules of debate and they do not include attacking a person's character, known as ad homenins.

If you have no desire to do that . . . then this rule should apply, because otherwise you are stooping to her level, if you truly believe that she is evil.

"If you have nothing nice to say . . ."

PS Her odd way of capitalization is a well known teaching device to make students slow down when they read. It forces the reader to take their time and possibly comprehend the material.

I have seen many a post where the reader obviously does not comprehend the material, haven't you?

You don't know JOKES when you see one?

LOL = Laughing out loud

Or do you actually KNOW one demensional people like FLAT STANLEY?

(That is a reference to a children's book, did not want to leave you hanging.)

If I post a FACT, I post a link to the verifiable, reliable and CREDIBLE site where it came from.

All I have done here is CRITICALLY THINK my way through this issue and offer my opinion.

You need a link for that? LOL

Feel better now?

I'm to much of an individual to want to fit in with the clothes, bike and attitude of Harley riders and for peace and quiet wish instead of thunder rally it was soothing whir of herd of shaft drive Beemer's. Analogous to the roar of loud trucks versus the "ah so silent" sound of Hybrid vehicles. Racket is fine for the military, not so fine for neighborhoods. That said I donate for Toys for Tots.
