COTTONWOOD -- Last week, Yavapai County Sheriff's detectives were called to investigate a case in which an 18-year-old man allegedly had been having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

The girl, who lives in the Verde Valley, said she knew Kether Bryan Augenstein for several months and they had sex in December at Augenstein's Cottonwood home. He also reportedly initiated sex with the girl in January.

An investigation also led to charges concerning sexual activity by Augenstein with a 13-year-old in Cottonwood. He is said to regularly "hang around young girls," according to the police report. Detectives were concerned for both girls' safety and believed that Augenstein was "grooming" other young girls for sexual activity.

He was booked on two counts of sexual conduct with a minor and is being held without bond.

Augenstein allegedly admitted sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old girl only after succumbing to her advances. He also admitted he talked on the phone with a 13-year-old girl and exchanged nude photos but said he did not have direct contact.

On March 8, detectives located the 13-year-old girl in Cottonwood. She said she met Augenstein last year at a football game. He told her he was 15 years old and they began exchanging text messages which included nude photos. She said he knew she was 13. He eventually asked for sex, but she refused. As a result of this investigation, Augenstein was additionally charged with luring a minor for sexual exploitation and furnishing harmful items to a minor.

Article comment by: Used to go to school with this kid N/A

I remember going to school with this kid throughout my middle school and high school years. I can honestly say the world will be a better place when he is in prison!

Kether, you need to spend some quailty time in prison! How does any adult (yes he is an adult) think it is okay to have sex with any 13, 14, 15 year old girls..... a 13 year old is a child and your family must be ashamed of you
