CAMP VERDE -- Cheryl Oliver has been arrested, charged with fraudulent schemes and artifices, theft and two counts of forgery.

Oliver, 48, was the bookkeeper responsible for deposits several times each week from Alcantara Winery in Camp Verde.

The Yavapai Sheriff's Office report says that during the four-year period during which she recorded cash and checks in the ledger and made bank deposits, she had skimmed cash from the deposit totaling $81,114.42 over 387 transactions.

An accountant and attorney reviewed the books for the period September 2008 to March 2012, discovering the fraud. The review also found other suspicious discrepancies worth an additional $50,000.

The SO report says that "a record of all bank statements, cancelled checks, deposit slips, altered slips, end of day printouts and witness statements indicates Cheryl Oliver was responsible for the theft."

On each deposit, the amounts varied ranging from $10 to several hundred dollars.

Her bond was set at $80,000.

I too have known Cheryl especially when she went through some very painful times. I knew her to be a very strong person in that time. Let the court do it's job and let us all look in the mirror to reflect on our own 'sins' instead of someone else's. I am certain we all know what our faults and wrongs are, so let the first one who is not guilty of something throw that first stone. I would venture to guess if we are honest with ourselves none of us can.

I am completely sickened by this whole thing. I have known Cheryl for many years. She would never do anything to hurt anyone. She is one of the most caring, thoughtful and kindhearted people I know. She is always doing things for other people. Cheryl is someone who puts others and their needs before her self. She has always gone out of the way to support everyone she meets. She is always willing to help people in any way she can. Iíve never known Cheryl to be selfish, deceitful or dishonest. Truth will prevail and those that are accusing her and bashing her will have to face their own judgment one day!

sad to say that everyone is questionable in today's society, especially the self proclaimed honest, loving and caring. Normally people who are stealing money don't go around conversing about it.

Barbara should stick to growing grapes only and let a competent person handle the business.

I can assure you Cheryl didn't take any money from this business. She is a very trustworthy and honest person who doesn't deserve this happening to her.

I have personally known Cheryl since 1987, she is one of the most honest and caring people I know. I would trust her with any aspect in my life. We have been best friends for years, have worked and lived together. I have never known Cheryl to take anything that is not hers, she is a very hard worker and has always provided for herself and her boys.

I'll admit that she is a very clever & mulipulative person! My heart goes out to the people who spent their lifes working so hard to build something for their families and for this community to enjoy only to be taken advantage of. For those of you that have supported Cheryl and continue to support Cheryl, well I highly suggest that you take a second look.. I'm so glad justice will finally be served i but even better than that is just knowing that she will have someone bigger to stand in front of someday. Try to get out that one!!

The people that know this woman knows she didn't and wouldn't do this and I can't wait until she proves it. She's not the person everyone protrays her to be. She is the most honest loving caring person you could ever meet.

Article comment by: A Client of Cheryl Oliver

I also find it strange that this happened months ago and is just now being published. I am a client of Cheryl's and have been for years. Not once have I had any issues. I know her on a business and personal level and this accusation is 100% false and not of her character. Cheryl is a honest, kind, trustworthy person who deeply cares for her clients, friends and family. I hope you all who left comments that are derogatory feel stupid when this is all dropped because it is bogus. It is easy to judge but just think if this was you and people were speaking badly without knowing you or your character..

The vineyard people support MATFORCE. MATFORCE used money from Oxycontin manufacturers to badmouth the people of Arizona. We call that blood money. This industry has blood money spattered all over them. I hope that they are made destitute.

The reason this didn't make the "paper" immediately was probably anyone who knows how this went down would wonder how one is arrested when not even questioned before. Scary for anyone of us. I have known Cheryl for 4 years and this would be the farthest of issues. She is a single mom, gone through lots of heartbreak, and would never hurt her business or her family doing a wrong like this. I am saddened that this made the paper and when she is exonerated I hope it comes out.

wow, people think that they will fly under the radar around here, you are being watched accountants! This is not 1998 anymore, you could be the best person in the world, you're still being watched, all business owners should have their books audited once a year from an outside source, so you tell me what kind of bookkeeper leaves money laying around for others to have access, knowing that he or she is responsible..sounds like a scam to me!!!

So she runs a company that does well over $100K a yr. and she stole deposits, some of which were missing $10.00???

I wonder how many other investigations the Yavapai county sheriffs office does where they DON'T interview the suspect, and then arrest them without questioning them?

It's my understanding Cheryl did the books about 3 hrs a week at this business, ONE DAY a week, and didn't do deposits the rest of the time. All the money was left in an unlocked room the rest of the week.

I have known Cheryl for yrs., In fact she has the passwords to my bank accounts, she does my books, she does my taxes.

I can assure you she didn't do this and the truth will come out.

Unfortunately this newspaper won't print it when she is found innocent!
