Carl’s Jr. opens in Cottonwood

For Nora Walker of Sedona, the newest Carl’s Jr. restaurant, in nearby Cottonwood, is a sight for sore eyes – and not just because she is among the first 500 customers to receive free food for a year. The new unit, which officially opened for business at 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, will cut some 70 miles off Walker’s regular burger run.

“This new restaurant is such great news for us,” said Walker, a loyal fan of Carl’s Jr. who for years has traded with her husband and friends the task of making the 110-mile round trip to the nearest Carl’s Jr., in Flagstaff, for their beloved burger meals. “Now, it’s a 40-mile round trip, as opposed to 110 miles. At 20 miles away, it’s just no big deal. And now we can all go to Carl’s and sit down and have hot food, instead of sending one of us on a run. We’re really thrilled.”

To commemorate the grand opening and the great news, Walker arrived on Monday, a day early, to officially become the first customer at the brand new unit, at 2560 E. Rio Mesa Trail in Cottonwood, in front of Wal-Mart.

As the first customer, Walker and friends were treated to the unit’s first meal as well as a coupon book for a free burger or sandwich a week for a year and additional Carl’s Jr. coupons and prizes.

This is the 67th Carl’s Jr. in Arizona.

The newly built, retro-style restaurant will feature new products and tried-and-tested menu favorites, combining the classic feel of a diner with the quality service that customers have come to expect from Carl’s Jr. over the years.

The restaurant will be open 24 hours, and amenities such as convenient drive-thru service and wireless Internet access will be available.

Carl’s Jr. is celebrating more than 65 years in the quick-service industry. What began as a lone hot dog cart in Los Angeles in 1941 is today an international organization that employs nearly 30,000 people worldwide. Carl’s Jr. is a wholly owned subsidiary of CKE Restaurants, Inc. of Carpinteria, Calif. As of the end of its first quarter of fiscal 2011, CKE Restaurants, through its subsidiaries, had a total of 3,146 franchised, licensed or company-operated restaurants in 42 states and in 16 countries, including more than 1,200 Carl’s Jr. restaurants and more than 1,900 Hardee’s restaurants.
