5/20/2010 2:02:00 PM Letter: Focus on the group, not the individual
Congratulations to the eighty-plus MUHS seniors who received some type of scholarship award on Monday evening. They have worked hard to get where they are on their merits.
Most of the presenters did an admirable job, with only a few problems with pronunciation of names. However, when Tim Foist gave the closing remarks, he focused on 3-4 students and their parents, who he must have thought were important enough to mention. Maybe he thought that made his talk more personal, but it disturbed me greatly.
Haven’t we gotten beyond a student’s place in the school based on what their parents do? And, yes, I had a grandchild awardee also.
