CAMP VERDE - A Cottonwood man was killed in Camp Verde when his car rolled over on State Route 260.
Wednesday, Aug. 27, just before 7 a.m. the Camp Verde Marshal's Office got a call from an off-duty reserve firefighter saying that he came across a car overturned in a ditch just east of Newton Lane, on the north side of SR 260.
The firefighter said the man inside the car appeared to be deceased and was pinned in the wreckage. Camp Verde Fire crews and a Marshal's deputy confirmed that the man, identified as 62-year-old William R. Schell of Cottonwood, was dead.
Schell was extricated from the vehicle and taken to the medical examiner's office where an autopsy will be performed. At this time it is unknown if this was the result of a medical issue, that he fell asleep, or if impairment was a factor.
No clues at the accident scene indicated what caused Schell to leave the roadway.
