PHOENIX -- Region II Manager Kelly Moffitt has been selected Chief of Operations for Arizona State Parks. Moffitt will oversee the Operations division of Arizona State Parks including the 30 State Parks and the Gift Shop program.

He will start in his new position on Saturday, Aug. 16.

"I feel honored and privileged to have been selected as Chief of Operations," said Moffitt. "Arizona State Parks is facing an exciting future, and I look forward to being a part of it. We have many fine staff members, and also many critically important volunteers and partners working on our behalf. I believe great things lie ahead for the agency."

Jay Ream, deputy director of Parks & Development, said, "With the pending retirement of Rick Knotts, Chief of Operations, the agency needed a qualified replacement who could hit the ground running in this important position. Kelly possesses unique work experiences, with significant time spent in both the public and private sectors. This experience will make him an asset to the agency as we continue to expand our park operations by exploring the use of third-party (concession) operators."

Moffitt has been the Region II Manager since November 2013. He previously served as Regional Manager for Arizona State Parks from 1993-2003. Moffitt left the agency in 2003 to become the Chief Operating Officer for Recreation Resource Management, the company that operates public recreation areas for the US Forest Service.

Right man for the job. Good for the state and a loss for the Verde Valley directly, as he heads to Phoenix.
