CORNVILLE--Saturday, June 21, MS Arizona will be setting up a ghost bike memorial for Lynn Hartline, the woman bicyclist killed when hit by a van on Cornville Road. She was part of the Ride the Vortex annual MS fundraiser. All are welcome to join. The memorial will be placed just west of the intersection of E Cornville Rd and Beaverhead Flats Rd. Saturday, at 1:00pm.
Ghost Bikes are small and somber memorials for bicyclists who are killed or hit on the street. A bicycle is painted all white and locked to a street sign near the crash site, accompanied by a small plaque. They serve as reminders of the tragedy that took place on an otherwise anonymous stretch of road, and as quiet statements in support of cyclists' right to safe travel. Another ghost memorial was placed on SR 89a ner the Lower Loop Road a number of years ago after a Sedona biker was killed. .
Special thanks to Jake at Absolute Bikes for creating the memorial for Hartline.
The Yavapai County Attorneys Office and Sheriff's Office are expected to announce soon whether any charges will be forthcoming for the driver of the van.
