COTTONWOOD-Fire crews saved a home, but a boat that was under reconstruction in recent weeks was a total loss. Crews stopped the fire Friday afternoon in the 2200 block of Cottonwood Drive near Puma Circle, off Del Rio Drive.
Crews observed heavy smoke and flames as they approached. They found a boat in the backyard that was fully involved, with flames already scorching the rear of the house. Crews quickly got the fire under control, saving the house but the boat was a total loss. They spent more than an hour continuing to try and locate then extinguish smoldering material inside the attic and roof.
No one was home at the time of the fire. When contacted, the homeowner stated he had been remodeling and upgrading the boat in recent weeks. The source and cause of the fire are under investigation.
Firefighters from the Verde Valley Fire District were assisted by Sedona Fire and Cottonwood Fire Department and Montezuma-Rimrock Fire District and the Verde Valley Ambulance Company.
