College for Kids program takes another hiatus

CLARKDALE - Children's summertime activities are trimming down again this summer as Yavapai College adjusts to a new community education outreach coordinator.

The position was formerly filled by new hire Nancy Gottschalk, but College Foundation Director Linda Buchanan is now stepping back into the role she held for more than a decade.

"We're too near the release date to have programming in place for this summer," Buchanan said.

The community outreach coordinator will serve the Clarkdale campus and the Sedona Center for the Arts and Technology. Her fund-raising role in the Yavapai College Foundation will be filled by Director of Development Paul Kirchgraber.

"This is an exciting time," she said in an email. "Renewed vigor and commitment from internal and external stakeholders creates a wealth of opportunity."

She said she's excited to start building non-credit programs at the college, including College for Kids.

"Our children's programming is such a special way for families to connect with the college campus," she said.

Her next step is to consult with other service providers in the Verde Valley to see what summer programming is being offered. She said community members are encouraged to come on campus anytime to use free services, like library computers.

"Ultimately, it's about creating an enrichment experience that keeps children and youth enthused about learning during summer break," Buchanan said.
