Batter Up! for new Little League season

Travis Guy
Sports Reporter

Mayor Diane Joens officially opened the 2014 Cottonwood Little League season Saturday morning by tossing out the ceremonious first pitch at Riverfront Park. All the Cottonwood Little League teams, from T-ball to Minors, were introduced to their fans to open the day. VVN/Travis Guy

Thank you Mayor. It is amazing how no matter what you do, it is easy to take pot shots at you. I want to thank you for coming out and seeing 500 children gather for the 75th anniversary of little league. It is a celebration of thousands of hours all the volunteer parents put into their community little league. And opportunity for the children who have been practicing diligently to be prepared for a great season. Instead of thanking the volunteers and children, some of you want to start a political mud sling. I apologize Mayor for this. I invited you out to see all the changes in the facility. The colors of the teams. The community coming together as a whole and cheer our future in the field. The singing of God Bless America and the National Anthem. The kids walking to home plate waiving into the stands at their parents and the parents calling to their kids to get a picture. Thank you Mayor for leading our kids in the Little League pledge. To hear 500 children's voices repeat after you was and incredible experience for everybody involved. Thank you Verde Valley Little League kids and parents. It was an incredible Saturday Morning. I am proud to have been part of it with you. And thank you again Mayor Joens for attending.

Article comment by: Obviously you two took time out of your weekends to attend the event?

Oh you didn't?

Opted to stay in and try to crack jokes at others expense instead?

Hoping we will see you both on the next ballot for mayor so we can watch you zing a 90 mph fast ball past a little league batter.

Holding breath...turning blue...gasp... never mind.

Your keyboard courage seems to be writing checks your real life selves can't cash.
