Randall Hauk of Randall's Restaurant is the 2014 Verde Pride Lifetime Achiever.

Born in Michigan, Randall has lived in Clarkdale since 1958 and worked in many restaurants before opening his own in 1999. He has always been extremely generous with the community, cooking for benefits for police and fire, for baseball and basketball teams.

"I have witnessed people come into the restaurant and be hungry with no money, but he feeds them anyway. Randall really likes to help and that makes him a great businessman," Kathleen Palosaari wrote in her nomination of Hauk.

"I started working when I was 11 years old," said Randall, "delivering the Arizona Republic in Clarkdale. I got up early every single day all of my school life until I graduated from Mingus and that is where my work ethic has came from. And all three of my kids are also incredibly successful."

Randall worked for a number of restaurants for 26 years until he bought his own place. He helped make each one of those places successful.

The pre-game meals he provides for the local high school football, basketball and baseball teams is part of Cottonwood's lore.

"Programs get cut and funding is needed for all kinds of things. When I bought the restaurant over 15 years ago, that is just something I started doing and it never stopped."

Randall not only helps out for formal activities like organized sports, but also when someone dies and needs money for a funeral or when a policeman or fireman gets sick.

"I think I put out a really good product and people seem happy with it and that has been the key to my success: I work my business. I am still on the line cooking; maybe a little less cooking these day but it is still hands-on for me."

"Somebody needs my support in something and I do it. I use the restaurant for fundraisers and for dinners and you name it, I have done it."

"I have just never been able to say no. And honestly, it has been important because it has come back to me 10-fold.

Randall has been my friend for over 30 years and I can not think of a friend or famliy member that he has not helped. Just recently he brought his homemade cinnamon rolls to my office for my birthday. He has been there for me and my family through some really hard times. If anyone in this Valley deserves this award it is him. We have had some great laughs over the years too. Let your imaginations run wild on that one.
Friend I love you very much. Thank you for all you do.

Thank you, Randall for all that you do. I have asked Randall for help several times throughout the years for fundraisers that I was organizing and he always gave above and beyond what I asked for. Thank you for being a wonderful part of our community. We are very lucky to have you.

Randy,
Congratulations!! I have known you since high school, and from the first time I met you, some 42 years ago,you have been one of the really "good guys"! I have never heard you utter an unkind word.
To you , there are no strangers...only friends you haven't met yet.
