Sedona Views RV park approved for SR 260

CAMP VERDE -- The Yavapai County Supervisors have given a thumbs-up for a new RV park along State Route 260 to join the existing Thousand Trails and Trails End.

The county Planning & Zoning Commission earlier gave a unanimous recommendation to Michael Mongini's proposal. Mongini is proposing a 299-unit park on the hill top property behind the Steve Coury dealerships on land in Yavapai County jurisdiction. An equal amount of space would be designated for RV storage. He told the commission earlier he was encouraged to build in the Verde Valley by visitors to his Happy Jack RV Park.

Tuesday, board member Chip Davis wanted to know how the commission had resolved the sign placement. Senior Planner Tammy DeWitt said the entry will be moved to a new location off the hill about the height of the base of the water tanks.

Planning & Zoning Commissioner Dave Grondin was also in the audience. He was one of the commissioners who asked that the illuminated entry sign be moved off the top of the hill. Grodin commented, "Now we will be looking at a 23-foot sign, not a 323-foot sign."

Davis wanted to make sure the illuminated sign was not visible from the top of the hill, but would be visible to possible customers from SR 260.
